How to stop spam on blogs and forums?

I am getting slammed with stupid spam shit on my blog and dont know how to stop it. I've heard before there is a way but can't find that info any more. I'm using Wordpress so there must be plenty of scripts I just don't know any.

Any ideas? :)

thanks!

You can set it to moderate so you have to approve before anything shows up on your blog(s) or disable comments all together

What forum script are you using?

Is it wordpress right. I believe theres a widget to handle that problem...

Ginn 05-12-2009 09:43 AM

Yep, i'd like to have such kind of widget also. I have disabled all the comments on my blogs, but i still get tons of shit comments to moderate on my email. What should i do?

WP comes with a plugin I believe called. akismet or something like that. It will help pretty much on its own.

WP Akismet does the great job for me catching almost all of the spam on my blogs.

Yep, Akismet does the job and does it well.

I believe in WP if you go to the settings and turn off the comments it doesn't completely turn off comments. You're most likely still getting spam because any currently existing post will need to have comments turned off too. You'll have to do each one manually. The same goes for pages like the about page. The option to disable comments just makes it so the default is to keep comments off when a new post is made.

If you do that you won't be getting anymore comment spam. If you want to leave comments on use akismet, it works great.

In WP you should block all comment or set it to moderate if it contains http: of www etcetc..

Because the only reason to spam is selling :upsidedow

Succes!

What forum script are you running?

Marquis85 05-13-2009 02:56 AM

lol, do what i do.

set the comments to moderate, then edit them :D most spammers write shit like "oh good post, i'll have to come back to your blog" or some dumb shit, with their link included of course. I strip the links and change the names, leave the comment or rewrite it altogether.

Akisment and bad behavior work very well. Another option is to use the is_human plugin. It provides a CAPTCHA image the user has to validate before the comment will get accepted.
