CHICAGO (AP) — Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan says that Craigslist is getting rid of its "erotic services" ads and will create a new adult category that Web site employees will review.

Madigan's office said Wednesday that such existing ads on Craigslist will expire in seven days.

Madigan and the attorneys general for Connecticut and Missouri met with Craigslist officials last week seeking an end to ads they contend are advertisements for illegal sexual activities.

An e-mail sent to Craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster was not immediately returned Wednesday morning.

Craigslist came under renewed pressure to remove the ads after a medical student in Boston was charged with the April killing of a masseuse he met on the site.

There are SO MANY WORSE things that government can be worried about other than prostitution. I understand when the police do stings in neighborhoods (usually around sweeps) in order to clean up neighborhoods. But how are two people hooking up via the internet hurting society. Prostitution should be legalized and taxed. They are NEVER going to stop people from having sex. If it was for fucking neanderthal bible thumpers from the dark ages, it probably would be legal.

I also would rather see it taxed and I an far from any control freak. Not sure why being a prostitute would qualify you as getting tax advantages that others can not get. Plus taxing it can make up for and pay for any enforcement, medical testing, etc. that should be enacted in the first place. Especially since it would be a matter of public health. History has also shown that taxing it worked very well, as long as it was not over taxed.
