Craigslist Downs Erotic Services. Offshore opportunity?
So CL took down the erotic services today and ended all new posts. All new posts are $10 and reviewed by their staff (lol). Sounds like an opportunity to start a new site similar to CL for that purpose. If you hosted it offshore, outside the US jurisdiction, would it fly? US needs to legalize this and gambling and get more tax income. I'm in the US and a taxpayer in case it seems i'm foreign on that opinion.
Anyone know if this idea would fly and any off the shelf CL copycats? Looks like a simple database and SQL server type program? |
I already know several (including me lol) already with sites underway. :winkwink:

Craigslist will become even better I think now. Only serious providers will bother to post. It will get rid of all the rip offs and bait and switchers.

agree with all the above. have a domain that i can use and figuring what can be done w/ the CL news from today. hmmm

Nothing will do as well simply because everyone in this thread is already working on their own idea.
What made Clist good was because it was made and used for other services and someone not looking for sex would check out the erotic section out of being curious. |

Seriously, this confuses me. If ebay closed it's doors today, do you really think you could launch the next gigantic auction site, because that's basically what you are trying to accomplish here.
1) Existing large provider sites will absorb a majority of users that leave Craigslist. They are out there already you know. 2) Most will stay with craigslist and post under the new rules or post in other sections. Leaving scraps if anything for someone trying to cash in. I can't believe people think they are going to launch a classified clone PHP script and be the next Craigslist. Maybe since Pontiac just shut down I'll try to start a car company..lol. But I wish everyone the best of luck, if you do succeed I'll be there using your site, so knock yourself out. |
Why would anything need to be offshore first off, craigslist did it by choice.
Their blog also says Erotic services will be closed and a new section will open up called Adult services. That area will contain a 10 buck initial post cost and a 5 buck re post with reviews. Really the only thing this even says is 1. they will charge. 2. the area's name will change. 3. new posts will be subject to approval. 4. Same stuff will continue on, just with much less spam. Also hoping that with such issues that by chance there would be less chance of getting flagged to death for trying to cast for talent. |

Exactly my thoughts, they're not closing, just taking a step in to paid market, which they'll make lots of money imho |
