Napster just got cheap/free

I just saw this and thought it was interesting
http://gizmodo.com/5259080/napsters-...ming-5-a-month

Napster just lowered their monthly membership fee down to $5 per month. With that you get full access to all 7 million of their songs and you get 5 DRM free MP3s per month that you can download and keep. You can buy more MP3's at 99 cents each if you want. So basically for the price of 5 songs a month you get the songs to keep and full access to their entire catalog to listen to.

I might have to check it out. it sounds like a great deal.

can't you already buy songs for 99cents each at amazon and you don't have to buy any membership? :2 cents:

Yep. The difference is you don't also get unlimited listening access to 7 million other songs.

If you listen to a lot of music on the computer this is a sweet deal.

interesting, I didn't know that they had free unlimited streaming access as well

is the quality good enough to pipe to your home stereo system and not worry about any difference?

I'm not sure if it is or not. I'm going to join the site tonight sometime so I can let you know how it sounds when I do.

amazon has free song snippets for mostly everything, cool for finding stuff and jogging your memory

I've never had a problem running it through my stereo system, but maybe I'm not as picky as some.

I've been paying like $13 a month for Napster for about 2 years... I love it. Most of their collection can be downloaded to an MP3 player, but here and their artists don't let you download a song, or a couple songs for free, and try to charge $.99 for those songs... But I just grab the rest of the album. You also just have to make sure you plug in the MP3 player at least once a month, or the license expires.

Overall, I love it... Now that it's $5 (which I didn't know) that's awesome!

Oh... I just re-read it... Actually not that impressed with the $5 deal... I'll stick with the overpriced $13 or so.

Thanks,

J.

Sounds like the old Launchcast business model

This is GFY. Assumptions are made from your thread titles.

Yeah I don't think the $5 model allows you to put it on your MP3 player, just stream it to your computer. That is fine with me. I have a ton of stuff on my MP3 player I can take when I want to be mobile, this will let me cheaply find new bands and listen to other stuff.

I've had napster for years, the $14/month plan is a great deal. I've found so much music I would have never heard any other way. I just load up the new albums every Tuesday onto my playlist and keep what I like.

It's actually better than free music or searching on torrents or whatever. For $5/month it's a great way to sample music. Well worth it.
