What's the best tasting milk alternative?

I've been seeing the Silk brands but there is a million of them, anyone have a favorite non-diary milk product? I'm not really into drinking milk much anymore :2 cents:

I like Lactaid. Although, it does have some dairy in it.

Horny Joe 05-27-2009 05:43 AM

If you are going for the Silk product that tastes most like milk, then I suggest the Silk-Unsweetened.
Been drinking it for years.

Almond milk is my fav. Soy isn't very good for you.

I agree... I have a son and a husband that are lactose intolerant for the most part and I bought some of this to try. I bought the regular flavor at first and it didn't do well with their cereal at all but they liked to just drink it. But the unsweetened was a lot better in their cereal.

if my youngest son gets too much dairy in his system, his body cramps like hell and he can barely walk at times, it's pretty bad with him.

HorseShit 05-27-2009 06:26 AM

why is soy bad for you?

HorseShit 05-27-2009 06:36 AM

I'll definitely look at almond milk

HorseShit 05-27-2009 06:40 AM

"It can also be made at home by combining ground almonds with water in a blender. Vanilla flavoring and sweeteners are often added. However, users should be cautious not to use bitter almonds, since the combination of bitter almonds and water releases cyanide[1]."

Ditto. We rock the silk unsweetened as well. Tastes better than milk in my opinion.

Sly 05-27-2009 07:26 AM

I don't really like the Silk, it was too sweet. Though the unsweetened comments make sense.

I stick with the lactose-free milk, I don't know if that's what you're going for but it's pretty good.

Whats the problem with cow milk? Is there some reason to avoid it? I drink 1% milk.

AZSarah 05-27-2009 10:27 AM

I had to do non dairy for several months & found that I like Rice Milk in my cereal, soy milk in my lattes but I didn't really enjoy either to just drink.
I never tried almond milk but it sounds pretty good.

It has something to do with the sugars in the milk for my son.. I found an article that will explain it better than I can: Lactose intolerance. I don't have this, but my son and my husband do, my son worse than anyone, and it rips their digestive system up. With my son, it makes his whole body just all but feel like it's locking up and he hurts so bad if he drinks too much of it, and he loves milk so it's hell. He CAN drink 1% in small portions at a time, and some skim milk, but if he gets into it and drinks too much, it's hell to pay for him and for us.

DrChango 05-27-2009 11:43 AM

Vanilla Silk Soy!!!

CamJack 05-27-2009 12:33 PM

Switch to soy, give it a month...you will end up preferring it.
