Hehe, the latter - its an ION USB digital turntable. I've been busy transfering my old vinyl to MP3.

Torn achilles tendon. Wearing the cast is option one - if that don't work they've got to open it up and operate. For now I prefer the less invasive route.

jaycontentbandit 05-28-2009 01:21 PM

OH NO that sucks

Are you an active person? Is it a sports injury? Or just a freaky thing that happened?

Very active, yeah. I walk on avg. 10-12 miles/day - and a lot of trail hiking/mountain biking along the Niagara gorge.

I figure by the time the cast comes off...I'll be ready for the white jacket and rubber room.

Not a sports injury, tho. It came on slowly as a sharp burning/tearing pain that I ignored...thinking it was just an aging twinge. Until the point I realized something was definitely wrong with it.

_Richard_ 05-28-2009 02:39 PM

sorry to hear dude :) hope you get through with little problems!

Thanks Richard. :)

Time will tell, of course. Stuff don't heal as quick in my mid-40s as years ago, hehe. The worst of it is our house has four floors and my office here is the 4th-floor loft.

Saddlebags on the cats to haul beer I'm thinking. :winkwink:

Something like that was happening to me until I was told to change the way I sit at the computer, something like strain on the tendon causing a slow tendonitis or tendonosis because of the way I crossed my ankles and just let my feet sit upside down while I worked.

I had to teach myself to sit with my feet flat on the ground and see if the tendon (my left foot was most affected) eventually mended itself, otherwise it was immobilization, drugs and physio.

Was this your case or was it completely mysterious?

:D

I chalk it up to just repetitive strain injury - the excessive amount of walking I do. The Niagara escarpment trails are extremely rugged terrain at the best of times, lots of loose rock, climbing, etc.

It may be somewhat related to torn ligaments and cartiledge (twice) in the ankle about 30 years ago - perhaps catching up and manifesting itself in the achilles tendon. The ankle has always been rather weak after the cartiledge problems.

Tough to say for sure. I do tend to sit in a lot of contorted positions at the computer for long periods...but I don't think that's the root cause of the probs.

Thanks for the input, tho. :thumbsup
