CANADIANS: michael ignatieff ad:

LOLLLL "just visiting" this commercial makes me want to cry. CUSSSEDDD :1orglaugh

Martin 06-02-2009 09:03 AM

I don't like him. Don't like Harper either, but the ad speaks truth.

Si 06-02-2009 09:07 AM

It's on all the time!

Makes me LOL.

I don't even know why they are showing it, there's not an election coming up is there? atleast not yet.

yys 06-02-2009 09:20 AM

The ad hits the spot . How the Liberals could elect a leader of a Canadian national party who has spent the last 30+ years outside the country is beyond me. I'm not usually into that anti-American rhetoric, but I just don't trust someone like that to run the country; where do his loyalties lie? Could you image the uproar from the so called nationalists in the Liberal party if Harper had spent a significant portion his life living in the U.S., advising Republican politicians. They already skewer him for bringing in advisors from the states and they go and elect a leader who calls himself American :1orglaugh

With all the serious issues our country faces though I'm sick of hearing these idiots bicker back and forth. If you listen to the daily question period in Parliament, it seems all the parties spend more time trying to score cheap political points, instead of debating and offering suggestions for the problems they should be trying to solve.

_Richard_ 06-02-2009 09:20 AM

is there a fact check for that ad?

madm1k3 06-02-2009 09:25 AM

I hate this fucking ad, i don't even know who this Ignatieff is but because you live outside the country doesn't make you any less Canadian, if that were true Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemiuex or any of our Canadian heros are even worse than this Ignatieff.

Everyone knows the true sign that you've made it in Canada is that your living in LA.

Anytime you live 34 years abroad and come back ONLY to run for prime minister and then say if you don't win you'll go back the the States, I guess it can be said that you are only visiting... What's his allegiance when he says that the UK is his adopted country and that he's also an American... ? Btw, I dislike Harper as much..

Michael Ignatieff - JUST VISITING

Sounds about right.

the Shemp 06-02-2009 10:41 AM

BradM 06-02-2009 10:45 AM

Canada is irrelevant.

Iron Fist 06-02-2009 11:20 AM

Next election I think i'm going to join the growing population of people who refuse to vote because they all suck.

I usually don't voice opinions in political threads but these ads are just a silly waste of money. We should be spending these valued dollars on something other than attack ads.

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 06-02-2009 01:02 PM

Canadian politics are become more and more like American politics.. Just a giant smear campaign. No need to do anything that makes yourself look good, just so long as you can make the competition look bad!

It's not him they worry about, its the stupidity of the people who will vote for him.

How in touch with a country's population can you be if you've been somewhere else for the last 35 years?

CDSmith 06-02-2009 04:16 PM

It's been my experience that you don't work that hard and spend that kind of money torpedoing someone unless you're afraid of something.

That "smart chick and her green party" are looking better and better.

Agent 488 06-02-2009 04:34 PM

the moronic conservative government has zero ideas on how to deal with the collapse of the world economic system other than television ads.

that tactic is just a logical outcome of their idiocy.

Jman 06-02-2009 06:03 PM

Young Trudeau is the next big hit... Until then, goverment in Canada will be voted by the geriactric community :((

No pun intended to the old canadian webmasters but honestly it ain't the young folks who voted Harper in.

We need to motivate the below 35 to go vote, fucking lazy bastards

Bryan G 06-02-2009 06:10 PM

OTTAWA — Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff is threatening to introduce a motion of non-confidence in the Conservative government as early as next week.

Lashing out at the minority Conservatives over unemployment insurance, isotopes and the deficit, Ignatieff said his party “will make a serene and clear decision” by midweek about whether it wants to topple the Tories.

The government’s second “report card” on the federal budget’s economic stimulus package is due sometime in June. That could be the catalyst for a non-confidence vote.

“I’m trying to make Parliament work with a government that every day is displaying more flagrant examples of incompetence,” Ignatieff told reporters. He said the Tories had “no plan” to deal with the isotope shortage and were posting staggering deficit numbers.

TD Bank yesterday said the deficit could be more than $172 billion over the next five years.

“The public finances of the country are not under control,” Ignatieff said.

Even if they wished to, the Liberals could not take down the Conservatives by themselves; they need support from both other opposition parties. Ignatieff said he had not consulted them.

Bloc Quebecois Leader Gilles Duceppe was unimpressed.

“Ignatieff has been switching positions since he became leader,” Duceppe said. “He gets up in the House and says ‘How can we have confidence in this government?’ and then when it comes time to vote, he switches positions and votes with the government.”

NDP House leader Libby Davies was non-committal about her party’s potential support. “We’re not going to say in advance without knowing what the motion is.”

The economic report card is due before Parliament rises for the summer. The Liberals will get the chance to move a confidence motion on an opposition day, which must be held by June 23.

Dimitri Soudas, a spokesman for Prime Minister Stephen Harper, said no date for releasing the report card has been set.

“Mr. Ignatieff’s recent threats for an election, they smell like nothing more than political opportunism and it’s unfortunate that he would want to play politics during a time of recession,” Soudas added.
There are reasons they're attacking him.

Canada's deficit is looking frightening again.
