Trying to get to the beach was a complete waste of time

On Sunday we decided to go down to Bournemouth beach. We left at around 11:30am got to the end of the m27 and straight into a traffic jam when we got through that we hit a huge fucking traffic jam in Bournemouth then we couldent find a parking space for about half an hour

We spent more time in the car than on the beach We couldent get anything to eat or drink because the queue's were so long at every fast food outlet.
I think every one in the whole of the UK went to Bournemouth on Sunday. I have never seen it so bad, wont do that again in a hurry it was a complete waste of time.

Yeah that is normally how it is here too. No traffic for me because I am so close, but I hate looking for parking so if I am not going to make it to the beach by 10 I wont go. Parking becomes a nightmare after.

I also like being there early because not many people are out yet and I can grab my favorite spot!

We were going to leave earlier but we had a few things to do before we left which took longer than we expected. The next time we go to the beach I will make sure we leave at 7:30 am ..lol

Aren't there any smaller, less visited beaches that you can go to instead? If I'm looking to relax, I hit one of the more local beaches rather than the bigger tourist type areas. And be sure to bring a cooler with drinks and sandwiches next time!

That's how it is in Niagara Falls during peak tourist season - people hoping to park within sight of the Falls...only to find the parking is typically a 20-min. walk (at best).

Then they pay $4 for a simple can of Coke or $6 for a hotdog off a sidewalk vendor. :1orglaugh

This is the best answer.

Grand Beach, just north of Winnipeg, is jam packed with people on most weekends. On any given long weekend there's up to 100k, so finding a decent parking space much less a square yard of space on the beach is damn near impossible. Anyone wanting a nice relaxing family day at the beach goes to one of the other beaches in the vicinity, Patricia Beach, Winnipeg Beach, etc.

Cooler of drinks
a small portable barbecue grill
homemade burgers

Damn I'm tempted to head out there right now.... except it's a crappy day here weather-wise.

Those vendors pay so much for the spot it's not really surprising they charge that

getting there early is key. I recently moved to FL and I was wanting to hit the beach one saturday, I left around 11am to head over to clearwater from Tampa. It was a nightmare and took almost 2 hours just to get to the beach area, another 45 looking for a space and to top it all off, i never found a spot and wound up just heading back to Tampa all pissed off and defeated. Early is KEY!
