well, in xp update, you can uncheck the install, and hit continue. Is that doable?

fris 06-05-2009 06:56 AM

JamesK 06-05-2009 07:45 AM

Mr Pheer 06-05-2009 08:02 AM

On my version there's an ask later, continue and don't install option when prompted for IE8. I just clicked don't install and it never asked me again. I'm on XP.

yeah, like Jdoughs I installed it and then removed the update and I haven't seen an update prompt for it since then

Adult Insider Dave 06-05-2009 10:25 AM

I installed it, removed it, and it still prompts me now to update again. I had to uninstall it cause it crashed every time i opened it, what a POS.

Google chrome now FTW imo

fris 06-05-2009 10:29 AM

fris 06-05-2009 02:36 PM

brassmonkey 06-05-2009 02:47 PM

i just installed it fucking vista

Vjo 06-05-2009 03:37 PM

Short rant and warning on why you should never update vista or windows. JMHO. A year back I got a puter with vista home. So after I get it set up and my old software installed ect, I run the windows updates.

Boom! It immediately makes windows media player the default player for .avi's and maybe other media as well. Media Player Classic will no longer work. There are no settings you can change, nothing and you cant uninstall wmp as we know.

I search around and find out, too bad, one of windows updates does that and it is irreversable unless you have a sys restore. You are stuck with fricken WMP to play your .avi's on. WTF. I was outraged. Even vented to the guy at Best Buy. hehe

So I look and luckily I did have a few auto restores, restored it and got my beloved Media Player Classic back.

Guess what I have not updated anything from windows since and I wont. That whole update, update, update is a big software makers scam. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Computer runs fine. Updates aren't needed in 2009 like they were in 2000. Save yourself the headaches and never update anything unless you have to.

:2 cents:

Like it would hurt any of the haters to go ahead and have it installed.

A) Haters hate on something without even trying it.

B) if they aren't going to use it who cares if it's installed? is it taking up that much HDD space?

It may be untrue today as they prob changed their updates after lots of complaints and added a patch to reverse things. But for a lot of us, at least for a while in early 2008 it was a problem. It was all over the SE's and forums.

Point is why update if things work. :thumbsup

I use internet explorer for daily browsing, thats why i didnt want to install ie8, i had an issue before when upgrading from ie7.

but seems its fixed now.

lazycash 06-05-2009 04:56 PM

I've been having the exact same frustrations. On some of my boxes I didn't want to update Vista with the new service pack, but it continues to prompt me no matter how much I unclick it, just like the ie8 update. I shouldn't have to install and uninstall and I don't want to turn off updates because I like to keep the critical update notifications.

fris 06-05-2009 05:53 PM

on vista, you have to install ie8 first then sp2 comes up as an update
