Phatservers/AmeriNoc... More down time?

This is my third time in a month being down...
Anyone else had random outages?

They say something is eating my memory.. and they haven't been able to figure it out yet.. My sites are small.. small hits.. niche/fetish traffic... I don't have anything fucking the shit out of bandwidth.. I could actually be on virtual and get by... but I like the support and security of dedicated..

But has anyone else seen a change this month? In the time I've been with them.. TOTAL.. before this month.. I was never down three times...

I wasn't going to post about it... but geez. It's going down during primo times when guys call and are in the chatrooms... probably costing me $300-400 each time...

then my girls get frustrated and log out.. so even if it's down for 20-30 mins.. I'm fucked for HOURS.. probably til morning because they'll all just go to bed since the sites down..

Barefootsies 06-07-2009 12:34 AM

Sad news. :(

I have had some recent grief myself. :disgust However, I have had a LOT going on in fairness. Launching new sites, and clearing out old shit. Server upgrades, moves, and installations that have not gone smooth.

Did you recently upgrade your script or something? What has changed recently that would make the script starting using a lot more RAM?
Or perhaps there is a new version of your script available that you can upgrade to?

The downtime sounds related to your scripts honestly. They can't do anything about that other then try and track it down and fix the scripts, if possible; or let you know which 3rd party script it is so you can have the original coder/company issue a patch or fix for it.
It has nothing to do with how much bandwidth you use, or how much traffic you get.

Trax 06-07-2009 12:40 AM

my server with them has been up the last 9 days... just checked
might indeed be your machine causing troubles

PSSuperstars 06-07-2009 12:49 AM

Well it's back up.. Thank God.. and only 1 girlie logged out... :)

Now if I can just get them to figure out what's eating my memory... or what's wrong..

because I have spammed and sung their praises before.. but all that ends when I lose money.. lol

but just wanted to see if anyone had similar issues.

THANK YOU AmeriNoc.. for getting it back up :)

They were amazingly nice and installed the mediamax thing for me... which took forever.. and I'm forever in debt for that..

I wonder if that's what is causing it?

That's the only change.

All my other sites are WPs.

SBJ 06-07-2009 12:53 AM

both my servers have been up and fast.. Phatservers support and uptime has been amazing for me and I wouldn't trust my sites to anyone else.. well except one company but just saying phatservers are always great to me

Have you asked them to move you to a different server or something if they can't figure it out?

Good idea :)
The first time it went down they said they'd look and see what it was... then the next guy on the next shift said they couldn't tell unless it was going on...same thing with the second time..

So I'm going to have them check out the mediamax script now...

I would ask them about this before you ask to move servers cause if this is the only change to your server lately and it has went down 3 times since this when it wasn't going down before then there is a damn good chance this is what is causing it and it's just not set up right or has a conflict with something else on your server

Personally i think Phatservers/AmeriNOC is a great company so if you're running into problems most likely there is an unsavory mix of scripts at play.

However, we have developed some amazing technology to host wordpress sites so if you're interested in trying something new check out www.RealityCheckNetwork.com

Your can contact me on ICQ: 4930562 or ( sales AT realitychecknetwork.com )

Additionally we have an extremely advanced monitoring system which we can setup to ensure that if there is a script / server failure we'd be notified within 60 seconds and most issues are resolved within a few minutes ( ~5 ).

well in the 6+ years I've been with them I haven't seen these limits haha.. They have always fixed me up normally under 10 mins and sometimes 2-3 mins..

haha in 2002 i was with a host i prayed my sites would never go down at night or weekends and sure enough on more than one time i was down for 3 days on the weekend.

I've worked with other big name servers in the biz with other companies and the only other host I'd EVER use would be Mojo host

2 types of memory; disk, RAM :

The possibility that you have a script that is making the server run out of memory(disk)
is probably 0% since the file/directories it would have to create could be seen growing in size
and easily corrected.

Unless you are running a script written in C/C++ then the possibility of the script
holding memory(RAM) and not releasing it is about 0% chance.

abadfish 06-07-2009 10:58 AM

I only have a virtual account with phatservers but I have been extremely happy with them. Definitely the best host I have ever been with.

Do you just pull this shit out of your ass? Nothing you said makes _any_ sense, and makes you look like an idiot. Two types of memory, disk and ram? WTF???? How do you equate directory size to the ammount of memory a script/application is using? The operating system doesn't give a shit what language something is written in, they are still going to malloc, and hopefully free when they are done. I don't even know what to say about the rest of your post that wasn't already covered with my "WTF????".

Christ you are clueless, please stop trying to offer advice on a subject you have shown time and time (and time, and time, and time...) again you know absolutely nothing about.

A memory leak is what happens when you forget to free a block of memory allocated with the new operator or when you make it impossible to do so. As a consequence your application may eventually run out of memory and may even cause the system to crash. I will now give you a few tips. Remember that code lines shown in red are the best alternative to each situation - they may be added or may even replace previous code.

hjnet 06-07-2009 12:53 PM

Signup for an Account at Web-Tech-Center.com, it's free while they're in BETA. That way you'll be easily able to monitor your servers, and get an immediate alert if something is going down or out of shape.

You might also login via SSH and keep the "t" command running, with "Shift+M" you can sort the biggest Memmory eaters to the top, and when the Server goes down again your SSH terminal will freeze with the biggest memory eater at that time on top :thumbsup

This is my nick, I don't have any others. I just can't stand people pretending they know something when they are clueless. Thanks for the link, perhaps you missed me talking about memory leaks in my inital reply to you, or maybe it's because you don't know wtf you are talking about. Now I don't know what memory(disk) is, I _think_ i know what you are talking about it but I'm not going to call it by it's proper name, but the way you are describing it is completely incorrect. If you can even call that a description. The bs about files and directories makes no sense, there is no corrolation between memory usage and file and/or directory usage in the context of this thread, in all my years of sysadminnery (Enough years to know you're completely and utterly clueless) I have never seen a situation like the one you are describing above.

Again, clueless. In PHP 5.2.9 alone they fixed 5 of those memory leak thingys you schooled me on. So please explain to us how it's not possible for an interpreted script to leak memory, because it sure sounds like they do.

FACT :

- I claimed it was next to 0% chance that the problem was with her website scripts.

- You claimed I was an idiot to make the above claim.

- The problem is fixed and it was not her website scripts.

PHP is a cgi script that runs as apache that is written in C/C++ and therefore had
memory leaks.

PHP fixed the problem.....HOW???? Did they re-write every php script in the world or
did they fix the fucked up binary code they had in C to stop the memory leaks where they
were created?

Do you know what "source code" is?

OMG!! :1orglaugh

Everything must "translate" into a binary before the computer can execute it.
PHP is a C coded binary that reads a file with extension ".php" and interprets the
text to produce output.

You can't run a PHP script on a server that does not have the PHP binaries installed.

Wow. My post totally sailed over your head. Thanks for the laughs, dipstick. Almost as good as your "FACTS" post where you tell me how it is with the foreward "I haven't read your response yet, but I will just point out a fact." Unfortunately for you, you take what you want from what you read (Or make it up), post some drivel you don't understand, try to prove to us that you understand it by explaining it like a retarded contestant on the "$25,000 Pyramid", make yourself look even MORE stupid, then use large fonts, insults and emoticons in a vain effort to make the person who is schooling you look stupid.

This is pretty much the defacto response from you when someone exposes you for the clueless tard you are.

I'm guessing you will totally miss the Pyramid analogy, but those who get it, GET IT.

You are too busy trying to make the other person look stupid to realize what a fuckin dork you are. Take my advice, you don't know what you are talking about. You think you do, but you don't.

PS, I like this too:

How do I give a pipe or a redirect a .php extension? Is this going to sail over your head too? Again, I know what you are trying to say, but you're completely wrong and making little sense, and here I am again, poking fun at your lack of knowledge about this sort of thing and waiting for you to tell me how stupid _I_ am, etc, etc, orglaughx10, FONTSIZE=3000.

Anyway, sorry to threadjack you PSS, glad your host got your shit figured out. And remember, if sortie gives you some server/coder advice, you will probably have reasonably good results doing exactly the opposite as he suggests.

I don't even want to answer that fake nick, but the stupidity of his post make it very hard.

I think I know who it is though.
