I went on a photo safari of my town this weekend (pics)

I was gifted a Flickr account recently with the idea of me finally getting out and learning to use my camera. It is something I have wanted to do for a long time but keep putting off.

This weekend though, I finally grabbed my camera and just took a walk around my local area. It turned out to be a good time because there were loads of things around to snap with the camera.

I thought I would share some of my favourite shots that came out of my walk.

More a case of how you can find beauty amongst the otherwise grim.

Take those nesting birds, this was another picture of their nest:

Entirely built out of floating litter ..they had even built it on top of an old shopping cart somebody threw into the lake. Which, just went to confirm how much better animals can be than people.

Great photos... but...

Those images are disturbing and sad. Those birds aren't clever, they are being abused by people who don't even know they exist and feel the need to pollute the home of nature.

Nature: the natural physical world including plants and animals and landscapes etc. The closet approximation humans can come to the definition of nature is to explain their actions, as in "human nature"

Therefore, as easily evidenced by the world around us, we are quite unnatural and a virus to nature as we can't seem to stop destroying it. Earth definitely won't miss us once our time has run out.

That is so sad!

Does anyone know what kind of bird that is also? I have always wanted to know, since I was at the park and some kids took 3 babies from the nest. I walked by and noticed them they played with the babies and there parents finally made them go give it back to mother after one died. The little girl put one back into the nest and the mother came back and killed it!

I was so horrified as was everyone. I traded the little girl my bracelet for the last baby. I purchase a heating pad at Petco and baby bird food and as it got older it thought I was it's mommy. It was so cute It followed me everywhere and would sit in my lap and eat out of my hand.

It loved going into the backyard and swimming in the koi pond. Finally one day it was all grown up and flew away.

Anyhow I would really like to know what kind of bird it was.

Good eye, but don't just stand and shoot. Those pics of you above the birds would have been more interesting if you had got down to their level. Almost always, putting in a little more effort can totally be worthwhile. Photos last forever.

But again, good eye. Some nice pics.

I was on the ground and all sort but the only way I was getting closer to this nest was actually being in the water. I was taking the pics from a low level bridge.

I agree with folks that those pictures are sad. It was both interesting and sad at the same time. If I even dropped a wrapper on the ground I would feel horrible about it. Yet, most people, apparently have no trouble throw major things into water.

Well, the lake I was walking around has been made into an urban bird sanctuary and it is baby season. So, I was drawn to those pictures, yes.
