Fucking Directv DVR
Made the switch! yippee...
Have had this DVR for 2 weeks and overnight a software upgrade wiped out all of our DVR recordings and timers. Fucking beautiful. Good morning btw. |
Never upgrade shit.. my dtv dvr hasn't been plugged into a phone line in 3 years
|
That's what I was thinking when they hooked it up. I pulled the phone line and it still updated through the satellite. I am pissed...
|
Check your settings, maybe it has a toggle for updating where it asks you first. Good thing to keep in mind anyways, I need all new receivers.
|
Thanks for the heads up. I will take a look...
|
Check out U-Verse. Way better than direct tv.
|
There is a button you can use that marks all your recordings as "keep till I delete" its one of them colored buttons.. (can't remember which) but look for it in your remote guide (its not marked on the remote its self)
|
I've been month to month with them for several years now, if I call them up and sign a contract can I get new receivers?

You just sent me running to my living room when I read this. I have the DirecTV HD DVR and I just checked mine and it's all good. I have a lot of shows and recurring recordings set up and they are all still intact.
|
Glad you're all good Jim. I have an HR20-700... Must be a glitch or defective HD...
|
Samething here, got the update last night but all the saved shows are all intact...
Must be something with your recorder. |
Good to hear guys. Thanks for the feedback.

So the script readers at Directv told me that because our account is new that the DVR needed to be updated and this is why the harddrive was wiped and reset. Why it happened two weeks after setting up our account? 'I don't know. This is very rare. It's very strange'. And of course the classic, 'this is the first time we've ever seen this'...
The worst customer service experience I have had in years. They are so non chalant over there it makes me sick. I get more satisfaction at the dmv. |
Strange..
DirecTV customer service is generally the best I've dealt with over the years, on a consistent basis. I'm not sure what you wanted them to do though, CSR rep can't magic-up your recordings. It sounds like you got a (very) old firmware version on your new DVR, which *is* strange as hell. So old, that it was incompatible with the new stuff - this means well over a year old! Part of the install process is forcing a firmware update - sounds like your tech fucked up and didn't do it. THAT is where DirecTV is horrible. Their techs are all outsourced contractors, and paid an extremely retarded small sum to do installs - thus the quality is fucking horrible. I've done all my own installs and never had an issue, but I know I'd probably be pissed if I had to deal with the contractors. Once in a while you get a smart guy who cares about his job - but they are getting more rare. Basically, once DirecTV is (properly) installed, it's great. The install process is horrible though. I'd also check your signal levels as well, especially since you have HD. Make sure 99(c) and 103(c) is into the mid to high 80's at least, otherwise have them come back out and re-point stuff. The "new" HD DVR's really, really, hate signal problems - and you will hate your life if you have any due to missed/blank recordings and the like. Good luck! I wouldn't trade my DirecTV for anything at this point, it really does work once it's setup proper :) |
Will have to check mine later on.
