Patient dies after ambulance driver clocks out of work en route to the hospital!!

"A critically-ill patient died after a paramedic took a detour en route to hospital - so he could end his shift.

He drove his ambulance to a depot to swap over with another crew, insisting that he was already 15 minutes late clocking off."

SOurce

tranza 06-09-2009 11:00 AM

That's fucked up. I hope this driver gets arrested, and never find any work again.

This can't be real... Talk about lack of judgement.

Fletch XXX 06-09-2009 11:12 AM

crazy, at least it seems they are not making excuses for the employee as many companies would.

Paul Liversidge, director of operations at North East Ambulance Service, said: 'There was an avoidable delay. How long is irrelevant. It simply should never have happened'.

He said the ambulance service received a 999 call at 3.52pm and immediately gave it 'Category A' status because Mr Asghar's condition was life-threatening.

Furious_Male 06-09-2009 11:12 AM

I am not sure how much of that story is embelished but it doesn't surprise me.

Iron Fist 06-09-2009 11:13 AM

Should be charged with something... that has to be criminal.

Erm, so ???

Shit happens. Especially in that kind of job. Imagine that was one of your family members that had died because of that ?!?!? :disgust

UFGators2007 06-09-2009 11:39 AM

I don't believe it. If it is true, he is gonna be in some serious trouble from friends and family of the victim.

LiveDose 06-09-2009 11:41 AM

Absolutely absurd if true. Criminal charges definitely.

who 06-09-2009 11:43 AM

Sounds a bit fishy.

Read the story dipshit.

WiredGuy 06-09-2009 11:46 AM

The driver should be charged for negligence. He's an emergency care worker who left his post in an urgent situation that quite possibly led to this guy's death.

pornguy 06-09-2009 11:51 AM

He has most likely been told that if he was overtime, he would get fired.

Lack of judgment but still.

$5 submissions 06-09-2009 07:18 PM

Criminal negligence much?

Danny B 06-09-2009 08:35 PM

Damn, that's pretty damn irresponsible.

Reading that article a commercial from a Dutch insurance company that popped into mind:

This guy is lucky the British government is about to collapse or he would be public enemy number one in the UK press at the moment.

and if he actually got fired for overtime like you said he could sue them for so much money cause he does work in a industry where he would be justified to finish the call cause he was called on to serve.. That's like saying firefighters inside a burning building where they know people are inside should clock out on time and leave the burning building to go back to the firehouse to turn the fire truck over to the next shift..

This guy atleast needs to be fired and never work in any way in this line of field!

u-Bob 06-10-2009 04:55 AM

Tom_PM 06-10-2009 08:40 AM

This is proof that some people work for the paycheck, and some work because they love and care about the work that they do.

DaddyHalbucks 06-10-2009 09:10 AM

That's disgusting. I hope the driver gets fired from his job and sued.

SmokeyTheBear 06-10-2009 10:07 AM

did anyone even catch this prt

"The couple's eldest son, Mohabbot Asghar, 39, a gas engineer, also from Stockton, was [b]in the ambulance with his father[b].
He said he was not aware of any delay in the ambulance getting to the hospital and insisted the paramedics were trying to save his father the entire journey."

sounds like they just swapped drivers as they drove by the depot. at first it may sound strange/evil/sick but follow this scenario.

The ambulance guy is getting off work and ready to check off for the day , on the way back to the depot he hears a call that is very close to where he is at , so to SAVE time , instead of letting another ambulance get the call he says " i'll grab the guy and swing by the depot to do a driver switch " , this may have actually SAVED time not wasted it. Mind you he could have both taken the call AND switched after but there is a procedure to follow for a very good reason. It's a very stressfull job like an airline pilot and they have set amounts of hours you can work so you are not a danger to others. The flipside might be he took the call went into overtime delivering him , got into an accident killing 4 people and we would all be asking why they let this ambulance driver work over the allottted hours set out to ensure driver safety.

He said: 'It's a procedural matter for the ambulance service.
'I am happy that they were working on my father all the way to the hospital. I was not aware of any delay.'

Hope he'll be severely punished. :Oh crap

Maybe he wasn't paying attention to where they were going and who was driving? His father was dying.

SBJ 06-10-2009 03:33 PM

Thing is, the hospital was so damn close. Common sense says he should have just taken the patient there.

Well, you know what they say about no good deeds going unpunished.

With any luck this thing will be properly investigated and if it played out like you suggest, they'll cut the driver some slack.

Vitasoy 06-10-2009 07:36 PM

The driver is sooo fucked
