I think the US is going to have a hard time trying to get these two girls back to the U.S. you know NK is going to use this against our government.

What do you think?

There is a couple of problems here....

1. This is not new news other that their recent conviction in NK court. They have been held for quite some time now with no attempt by the US to get them back.

2. They illegally entered that country and if you are going to do something in another country that is illegal then you should be prepared to face the punishment. Just because they are reporters and from the US shouldn't give them carte blanche to do whatever they want whenever they want. You go into a dangerous situation like that then you better be prepared to be a martyr.

3. I doubt NK is dumb enough to think that these 2 women (nobodies) are actually bargaining chips. At least not for anything worthwhile. The US is not going to, nor should they, do much in the way of getting them returned if NK tries too.

Sucks but I don't see anything happening and they aren't the only Americans stuck in shithole prisons around the world.

:2 cents:

That is the wrong country to do your investigative journalism in. You have to be nuts to 'wander' across that border.

yeah no shit .. i wonder if they are even living now.

Her sister, Lisa Ling(formerly of The View & also an investigative reporter) who also did a story and illegally entered NK under false pretenses. These girls knew what they were doing and got caught. I feel for them and their families, but there is no way they didn't know they were accidentally in North Korea.

Hopefully the US can do something small to get them out without giving that stupid bastard Kim Jong Il too much.

I wonder how many people are put in prisons wrongly there that are not in the media?
They mentioned on the news that NK is also holding a large number of Japanese citizens for no reason. If you think about it covering NK can't be as dangerous as certain parts of the middle east...this is being done for political and bargining reasons. Just last night on Fox soccer channel they had live NK vs. Iran...with no issues. Final score was: 0-0

If they've entered the country illegally claiming to be journalists, well, they are getting what they deserve.

While they might in fact be legit journalists, no Americans should be entering NK willingly. That's just plain stupid.
