Anybody else notice the industry getting older?

Over the past couple of years I have noticed less 'beer money' discussions and more 'mortgage money' type discussions. Of course, there are still younger webmasters coming into the industry but it doesn't feel like it once did when the greater slice of the webmaster pie was college aged.

Are the armies of younger webmasters just not making themselves known or has the average age of webmasters really increased as much as it feels?

Jakke PNG 06-11-2009 06:37 AM

I'm 13 at heart.

tammix 06-11-2009 06:38 AM

the market is saturated, its time to look for diversification in the business

StaceyJo 06-11-2009 06:43 AM

To diversify is another way to survive in business or life in general.

JenniDahling 06-11-2009 06:44 AM

I think the ones who have been in the biz for several years now are just all starting to grow up. When I first came around in 2004 it was all party and then business, now it's vice versa, which is fine for my old ass.

cherrylula 06-11-2009 07:01 AM

yeah all the college age guys running tgp's have either dropped off, grown up a bit or moved into other things. Things have definitely matured.

SilentKnight 06-11-2009 07:05 AM

I let the wife deal with the mortgage.

I'm still in it for the beer. :1orglaugh

HorseShit 06-11-2009 07:06 AM

I have a 13" cock

pornguy 06-11-2009 07:15 AM

Yup, not as easy to make a $$ here anymore, so only people that have been at it for a while are mostly left...

STAROTICA 06-11-2009 07:21 AM

Speaking strictly from a performer?s stance....you?re only as young as the talent you perform with......

Shooters stance.......only as old as the talent that you shoot......

So I am still a teenager........:1orglaugh

other parts of the industry have been outsourced.......so maybe we will never know. :helpme

seeandsee 06-11-2009 07:21 AM

if you ever talk about beer money on GFY, you'll get called an idiot, loser and n00b

to be cool, you need to participate in real estate discussions, even if you live in parents basement

Agent 488 06-11-2009 07:32 AM

gfy has got old yes. you're on the wrong boards.

Webmaster Army 06-11-2009 07:34 AM

The board being moderated might have something to do with it. It took an act of Congress to get activated.

Jakke PNG 06-11-2009 07:42 AM

The 'young ones' of yesteryear, like myself.. decided to make money off the 'free porn sites' we made for fun slapping some xpics banners on sites made out of content that we thought was 'public domain' or whatever.. Then learned after a few emails that what we did was wrong, we either stopped or found out how shit worked (ie. licensed content etc..)

The same rings true today.. BUT with one major difference, todays youngs main goal is to share as much as they can for free and be cool and don't even think of making money. Then post the angry emails that scared 'us' in the past in their BBS's and gloat and laugh..and therefore not even come to 'industry boards' and participate. Maybe.

Ah but it used to be all like a massive frat party.

CyberHustler 06-11-2009 07:47 AM

I'm old yo... and a n00b... I'm pretty fucked, huh?

MetaMan 06-11-2009 07:49 AM

i have grown up on the internet and in the adult web space, so have alot of people, i see names from 10 years ago still around, 10 years is alot of maturing no matter what age group you are in so it is def. getting older.

and i think that newbs have alot harder time getting into any online business now from scratch. there is just to many players who have figured out how to do things and pushed out all the small fries.

i think you will see less and less successful college kids involved in online every year.

even the "youngins" from before are all in their mid to late 20s now.

TheSenator 06-11-2009 07:51 AM

I pretty much started straight out of college. I never worked for a big company before.

You sure nailed the current climate of the internet. I blame that WordPress asshole for pushing hard on the "everything should be free" mindset. What the morons don't get is that most people putting up free sites are trying to pad numbers in order to sell out later, won't work in porn unless you are really damn big.

96ukssob 06-11-2009 08:00 AM

we stay the same age, the girls just keep getting younger :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

Ive noticed that too, but maybe its just a GFY thing. When I first started posting here it was all about boozing and party, now its about serious adult business, like what city has the hottest women and what does and does not make me gay

Im sure the "younger" crowd has some other board they post on maybe. Or they just like to keep things a secret.

but Im willing to guess there is not a lot of younger new comers in this business anymore. Its not just about a simple tgp with a layout made in notepad with a few ms paint images anymore. software and hosting is getting more and more expensive and ROI is shrinking each day. Personally, i think it is a lot more involved now days then it was 5 years ago
