What motherboard to get with the Core i7?

I'm building a new machine so I can work with HD video better and curious as to what motherboard any of you are using with this?

Also, if you are also using the Core i7 for video, what else have you done to your system to beef it up?

Thanks! :thumbsup

SunDevilangels 06-20-2009 12:48 PM

I have a pre built I 7 machine that i upgraded and nothing I have seen even comes close!

Specs:
X58 chipset
i7 2.6

12 gigs of ram

320 raptor 1000rpm drive

dual ATI 4890 GPU's

1000watt power supply

8x LG Blu Ray burner
20x LG DVD burner
All in one media card reader
and tons and tons of storage drives, all 1.5 terabytes each.

Make sure you put in at least 750watt power supply this baby needs juice!
The I-7 core is the best thing out to date!

A friend of mine has the new Dual Xeon Power mac it does not encode as fast as a single true i-7 core

TidalWave 06-20-2009 12:49 PM

are you sure your place will even have the power to run the i7? it will use about 1.5Amps lol

You really need more power than that, my machine came with a 420watt as well, it would blue screen due to not enough power, I popped in a 1000watt PS and no more problems ever. You may not have experienced this issue yet, but under heavy rendering conditions, YOU WILL. Hope you dont lose all data you edited. So upgrade you PS to at least 750watts
or more 580watts is NOT enough

How fast can you churn through video? What about HD video?

$1170 sounds like a steal.

SunDevilangels 06-20-2009 12:55 PM

My machine almost encodes video at rea ltime, NO BS a 25 minute video in about 29 to 32 minutes.

I may take out the power for the entire village I live in, but fuck it. These rice farmers don't need to be watching TV anyway. Just corrupts the mind. :thumbsup

Didn't think about the power supply. Thanks. :thumbsup

That looks like a sweet system. How much did it cost?

What about cooling it?

Standard video or HD?

SunDevilangels 06-20-2009 01:14 PM

Both any and all , seriously.

I mean the higher quality the faster as it has less encoding to do of course, but almost the same time either way. I love the the i-7!

I'm torn between the GeForce GTX-295 or the ATI 4890.

make sure you get the i7 920 with d0 stepping :thumbsup

people have oc'd this processor up to 4ghz w/ air cooling

you'll want a massive heatsink

SunDevilangels 06-20-2009 02:06 PM

I am not here to cause stress, giving the i-7 more power makes it render much faster.

I render full true HD 1080p 30p or 24p

1080i to 24p is an upscale that is slowing down the algorithms in processing.
I shoot with a true full HD video camera ( SONY EX1 ) which captures in 1920x1080p , 24p , 30p so I dont have to upscale.

Having more ram helps very much, I have 12gigs of DDR3

but the power supply is key. The i-7 needs lots of power at any given time.

I truly render almost in real time, maybe i have a freak machine

P6T deluxe v2 is great

Someone once told me the PSU is THE most important part you'll buy for your system.

dyna mo 06-20-2009 02:12 PM

there are several i7 power supply calculators out there that provide an accurate power need profile, it's a smart idea to check them, as i did, when building a spec box.

Well it is! The PSU is where all the other components get their food, c'mone its easy to figure out! If you dont fuel the parts with enough power , it will fail, or not peform up to its fullest potential. Its that simple.

Been working on porn too long when I see Asus and read it as "Anus"...

eVGA x58 mobo ...get lots of RAM and some good HDDs!

areagirls 06-20-2009 03:23 PM

It will probably come down to the Asus P6T deluxe v2 vs the EVGA 132-BL-E758-A1.

Both are great boards, but the EVGA has better support. When you call, you'll actually get someone who knows what they're talking about, and speaks english.

:) And if you knew me, you would know it's allllllllllll shenanigans. Between you and me, unless it's a real business thread, I wouldn't believe 98% of the shit I said here.
