Facebook finally beats MySpace in the US market

Full info is available here. Does this mean that Facebook porn/gambling/pharma apps will finally outnumber myspace ad profiles?

The Facebook growth rate numbers are AMAZING. Time to get on the (already crowded) FB ad app bandwagon?

I wonder that this didn't happen much earlier

papill0n 06-22-2009 12:13 AM

voa 06-22-2009 01:47 AM

AsianDivaGirlsWebDude 06-22-2009 01:56 AM

So who is losing the most now in the social networking biz?

Facebook, Myspace, Twitter or Adult Friend Finder?

Only MySpace has been making a profit out of those. Facebook is losing the most but thats because they are spending huge amounts on infrastructure.

Myspace is not making money.

2007 they made 10 million and that is all I could find for a profit. I might be wrong. So this level of loss pretty much wipes that out. then add in that Google is very unlikely to renew the deal and ... uuugghh

Sarah_Jayne 06-22-2009 07:46 AM

I can't remember the last time I logged into my Myspace account but I am on facebook every day.

PR_Sebas 06-22-2009 07:57 AM

It'll be interesting to see if they can bring MySpace back.

art914 06-22-2009 01:14 PM

5-7 yrs from now something else will beat facebook

LadyMischief 06-22-2009 01:15 PM

Not surprised at all. Jeremiah Owyang predicted this would happen in two years, two years ago almost to the week. I will have to swing by his blog and mention something about it lol.

LeRoy 06-22-2009 01:25 PM

Maybe because there are so many viruses on myspace.

collegeboobies 06-22-2009 01:36 PM

facebook is way better

I kinda agree with you because 1) Facebook is scary in how it is able to dig up people you know and connect you with them 2) while it does lack user custom pages, it more than makes up for it through its apps and communication systems

Anyone who has made a penny with adsense knows this fact: The better your site is when it comes to what the customer wants, the more worthless advertising is on the site.

Facebook has exactly what the user wants, so they never look to the ads. Even Facebook execs agree that the click through rates on their ads are abysmal, Myspace execs and Google says the same thing.

Advertising will never be enough with those sites.

They need to figure out a way to extract money from all this traffic. Everything they have tried up until now has been met with near revolt by their user base.

They should just charge $3/month or something like Skype does. People are so hooked on Facebook that they would pay. If someone stopped paying all their friends would assume they are too poor to afford $3, so I bet most heavy users would happily pay.

Great post.
I was just writing about this last week ...

polle54 06-22-2009 02:32 PM

Everyday 40.000.000+ images are put on Facebook. They have a total of 40.000.000.000+ images.

280 million users or so.. it is absolutely insane.

I am on Facebook at least once a day myself btw :)

Si 06-22-2009 03:58 PM

everyone is on facebook. myspace is shit.

I have long since trained myself not to look at ads. Gmail, Yahoo News, Facebook.... I never see the ads. Even GFY - I don't notice the new skins. It takes me a while and it's like "oh, when did that go up".

cherrylula 06-22-2009 07:23 PM

Myspace has too many ads.

KillerK 06-22-2009 09:07 PM

I dont see what facebook has other then it's easier to find your school mates who i dont want to talk to anyway.

Myspace atleast lets you customize your page.

SeniorX 06-23-2009 04:53 PM

nothing amazing about facebook, they have spent over $200 million to acquire 200 million members, that's $1 per member for users who are mostly from Russia, China, Brazil, etc.

Young 06-23-2009 05:18 PM

You can throw all those impressive numbers at (a jabillion pictures a day, 3 gazillion people a month) but one fact remains extremely unimpressive.

Facebook has yet to post one single $1 in the black.

The internet is not some magical place where massive amounts of traffic and alot of awesome things to do will excuse you from paying the bills or explaining to share holders why you aren't making money.....Facebook is no exception.

and no matter how much the media shoves the Facebook story down our throats it won't be unless they have a sound way to make $$$$$$$. Guess what...they don't.

Full Disclousure: I use Facebook alllll day and they will not make a single cent from unless it's through selling my user data.

Young 06-23-2009 05:21 PM

Oh and how long before shareholders are asking for Mark Zuckerberg to step down or stay home?

18 months tops.

teh ghey 06-23-2009 05:27 PM

Thats all I hear about lately
I dont like it personally. I made a membership account and it fucking scanned my email without my permission looking for others people's emails.
So my sister ended up in a list of contacts right with sleazy guys I fucked with a couple of weeks ago. creepy

Myspace feels too 'teenager' and Facebook at least lets you pretend it is the adult table version.
