is there a Wordpress utility that will mass convert the whole site to static?

Just wondering if there is a wordpress utility that one can use to batch convert an entire wordpress site to a static html site? (no comments or user interaction required)

It doesn't answer the question, but it makes load time faster!

d-null 06-23-2009 06:34 PM

the reason I ask is to archive a site that I am moving away from wordpress completely, so caching for speed is not the reason I need to convert to static

download the database and you're set, you can always reuse the content in another site/script/layout

Will wget or other site rippers pull it down in html?

Lamis 06-23-2009 09:42 PM

just save it as HTML... nothing special...

bingo! and it takes three seconds

I guess I worded my request wrong, I want the site to remain active, but static, in other words I want the pages to all remain online which is what i meant as archived, even though I am shutting off the wordpress script

it is a matter of saving the html as someone else mentioned, but for a large site that would get pretty tedious so I was hoping there was some kind of utility that could do this automatically

yes, however it will save everything, including comments, trackbacks, sidebar, whatever. With the database he just can dump the title, the content or anything else he wants to a template or even txt files, it doesn't come any easier than that :)

I'm still not following your idea, I want the pages saved as html files so I can get rid of the wordpress script and the site will look the same to visitors as it was when wordpress was running (except for dynamic features like comments)

I have the database, that is the easy part, converting it to html pages from the database seems more complicated than using wordpress itself with some kind of utility to create html files (or even using a scraper completely independent to wordpress would work better than using the database itself I think)

just visit the page in wordpress (front end) and download each page, then copy the images dir over etc to a root.

ah, I understood you wanted only the content and title to add it to another script. Then yes, what Fris say, use one of those mass downloaders like Flashget or any other that can download entire sites or as nettrust says, you can use wget. If you're going that way, GNU wget works wonders :)
