about 5%

I wonder if it's even worth it optimizing for these people since they can't even afford a decent monitor

Yep, at some point you have to just go with the majority. I tend to build my sites to fit in 800 X 600 and they still look good at 1024 X 768.

voa 06-24-2009 04:07 AM

That i some interesting moment, i guess that those people doesnt care about which resolution they use. Most of them doesnt surf on porn site from home they do that from work

Drake 06-24-2009 04:10 AM

I'm a freak. I think that 1920 x 1200 is absolutely perfect.

dav3 06-24-2009 04:23 AM

about 40% use 1024x768 on 2 of my better sites

Using a lower resolution isn't necessarily about affording a better monitor though. Some older surfers have it set that way to be able to see better.

sortie 06-24-2009 08:16 AM

Maybe compact laptops affect the number of smaller resolutions screens.

My smallest lightest laptop only goes to 1024x680. (I better check that 680, maybe 768).

It's 768. My bad, don't know why I thought 680.

How is affording a decent monitor affect their resolution settings? I have a good monitor but I still have it set at 1024x768 because I like the resolution, it's best suited for me.

Surfers don't need huge resolutions to look at porn.

i'm on 1280X800

My laptops highest setting.

My other laptop only goes to 1024X768 because it's a 14" screen.

Guess the people using laptops and such bring the number down quite a bit.

Gasper 06-24-2009 09:12 AM

I'm on 320x240. Thinking on upgrading
to 640x480. What do you think about this?
Too soon?

1024x768 is what I use, alot of my surfers use it. No problems here.

I was gonna post this as well, netbooks are becoming more and more popular and the smaller resolutions are being used more and more.

You don't know that...!

I use 1024 x 768 on my laptop and 1680 x 1050 on my desktop. I design for the former.

I think the increase in monitor sizes over time is probably offset to an extent by the increase in the number of laptops being bought - almost everyone seems to have a laptop these days. So I'm not surprised such a large number of users are still on 1024 x 768.
