Fucking idiot programers!
Ive been working with a partner on a new project for the past month and he decided to hire a developer off a forum, rather than my guy that I know. I really had no say since he is the one with the money.
Anyway, I spec out the entire project from start to finish. Its actually pretty simple... two tables in a database and a search feature, then sorts by 3 values. I told my programmer buddy form LA and he said anyone should be able to get it done in about a week max... and thats if they work a 3 hour day. We are now going into week number 6 on this, and its still not done. I just got an email from the programmer saying he doesnt know what to do and will have to wait for his supervisor on Monday to help him.:mad::mad: WTF?!?!?!?:mad::mad: Annoying part is the guy that I've been talking to this whole time, isnt even the programmer, he took the job then handed it to a "junior programmer" who can barely speak and understand english, so Ive had to spend half the time trying to translate into Indian for him to comprehend. Im really irritated at this and cant understand how people can be so fucking stupid. its an easy fix, which if I took a bit to learn programming, I could probably figure it out myself, but now the guy who we contracted wants MORE money because the project has gone longer than he expected. No fucking way. What Im most pissed about is I told the guy SPECIFICALLY what needs to be done and today he says "finished sir" I log into the site and see right in front of me two huge errors, then find about 3 more in 5 minutes. I ask him how he can say its done with this mess and his response is "i have no more time, sorry" /rant :winkwink: |
damn man that must suck , i know how it is in my case talking to customer support people that are "india"n hard to translate good luck getting that fixed.

That's what you get for going for the cheapest. Next time, pay for a decent programmer. Actually, I guess your partner is the one to blame.
|
fuck... dude that sucks
|
|
"You get what you pay for" ?
|
I bet too much outsourcing is one of reasons of global economic crisis. When you too much look on saving money instead of quality, only disaster can happen.

came out to about 5x more than what it should of been for outsourcing. |
Sounds like about an hour of php coding to me...unless those 2 tables have alot of different fields...
|
so basiaclly, your parnter went for the cheaper route rather then youre non foreign buddy that knows what hes doing?
and in the end youre getting fucked deal? |
Problem is everyone wants to work but no one wants to WORK
|
Damn, sorry to hear that you guys are having such a rough time with your programmer.
I hope that things improve and that you at least get a finished product soon! Quote:

ive been bitching at him for the past two weeks about this and want to pull this guy off and hire someone else, but today im told "it is 95% complete, only a few more things to fix" so we'll see |
Sounds to me like you should be bitching about your partner...
|
Sounds like the good news is the broker is in the US so you have recourse if it comes to that.
|
both, programers and partners can suck sometimes...
so open your eyes when choosing them... |
So, a sub-par person was hired sight unseen with an unknown background, and you got screwed. Happens a lot in this industry. :(

I'm so sick of hearing "you get what you pay for".
People who pay alot get fucked over all the time too. You don't get what you pay for, but you do get what you deserve. If you hire a guy/company based on price alone, or on a 5 minute interview, without checking references, without checking other projects he's done, without asking for some sample code, then you get what you deserve. Charging more doesn't make you better. Same thing goes with hosting companies. The ones who charge the most tell you it's because they're the best, but that's not necessarily true. I've had excellent support and service from lower priced companies, and had bad experiences with expensive ones that were supposedly the best. Do your homework and don't make snap decisions. If you're in a hurry, you need to ask yourself why the guy who can start right away, can start right away. There's an old saying, if you want to get something done, give it to a busy man.:2 cents: |
