Fucking idiot programers!

Ive been working with a partner on a new project for the past month and he decided to hire a developer off a forum, rather than my guy that I know. I really had no say since he is the one with the money.

Anyway, I spec out the entire project from start to finish. Its actually pretty simple... two tables in a database and a search feature, then sorts by 3 values. I told my programmer buddy form LA and he said anyone should be able to get it done in about a week max... and thats if they work a 3 hour day.

We are now going into week number 6 on this, and its still not done. I just got an email from the programmer saying he doesnt know what to do and will have to wait for his supervisor on Monday to help him.

:mad::mad::mad: WTF?!?!?!? :mad::mad::mad:

Annoying part is the guy that I've been talking to this whole time, isnt even the programmer, he took the job then handed it to a "junior programmer" who can barely speak and understand english, so Ive had to spend half the time trying to translate into Indian for him to comprehend.

Im really irritated at this and cant understand how people can be so fucking stupid. its an easy fix, which if I took a bit to learn programming, I could probably figure it out myself, but now the guy who we contracted wants MORE money because the project has gone longer than he expected. No fucking way.

What Im most pissed about is I told the guy SPECIFICALLY what needs to be done and today he says "finished sir" I log into the site and see right in front of me two huge errors, then find about 3 more in 5 minutes. I ask him how he can say its done with this mess and his response is "i have no more time, sorry"

/rant :winkwink:

man, I am just so pissed that I show the guy when you do this, this is what is displayed, and he cant even get that right. its nothing really difficult, but i asked someone else to look at the code and he said its a complete mess and easier to start from scratch.

Your thread title is wrong... it should say "idiot outsourcing companies". :2 cents:

That's what you get for going for the cheapest. Next time, pay for a decent programmer. Actually, I guess your partner is the one to blame.

intellichat 07-03-2009 06:41 AM

fuck... dude that sucks

"You get what you pay for" ?

Klen 07-03-2009 07:00 AM

I bet too much outsourcing is one of reasons of global economic crisis. When you too much look on saving money instead of quality, only disaster can happen.

shitty thing is he definitely overpaid. the guy he talked to, the "broker" is based in the US and said he was doing the programming.

came out to about 5x more than what it should of been for outsourcing.

k0nr4d 07-03-2009 09:05 AM

Sounds like about an hour of php coding to me...unless those 2 tables have alot of different fields...

Deej 07-03-2009 09:30 AM

so basiaclly, your parnter went for the cheaper route rather then youre non foreign buddy that knows what hes doing?

and in the end youre getting fucked deal?

amacontent 07-03-2009 09:33 AM

Problem is everyone wants to work but no one wants to WORK

Kiwigirl 07-03-2009 01:40 PM

Damn, sorry to hear that you guys are having such a rough time with your programmer.
I hope that things improve and that you at least get a finished product soon!

I agree, I have had interactions with someone from India who quite often has no clue as to what I am saying which I find extremely frustrating. LOL

Hey there, not all outsourcing companies are idiot based. LOL I actually outsource to both US and offshore resources but advise all my clients prior to hiring who I feel would be better suited for the project. It is then up to that individual to decide what route they want to take after reviewing the quotes. On a few occasions I have declined outsourcing offshore to clients because I want them to be satisfied with the end product. Oddly enough one client insisted to use offshore regardless of my advice and has renewed that position for 4 months now. :1orglaugh

Interesting outlook. But it is possible to save money and still get a quality product. You just need to shop at the right store. :winkwink:

Ehm, and you outsourced this??? A $100 price tag if as simple as you say, and $50 of that price is "move my arse" cost, as it really doesn't seem like anything more that familiarising oneself with your tables and writing the sql....

a gfy thread would have found someone capable

BradM 07-03-2009 02:17 PM

jesus. even I can do that and I am NOT a programmer. but I am a hobby site builder and I make that every couple weeks for fun

Killswitch - BANNED FOR LIFE 07-03-2009 02:23 PM

only problem is i wasnt the one to set it up. my partner took it on his own to hire someone from a forum (obviously a noob forum) and paid him. hes only done smaller tasks before and thought this was fine.

ive been bitching at him for the past two weeks about this and want to pull this guy off and hire someone else, but today im told "it is 95% complete, only a few more things to fix" so we'll see

Varius 07-03-2009 04:04 PM

Sounds to me like you should be bitching about your partner...

slapass 07-03-2009 04:09 PM

Sounds like the good news is the broker is in the US so you have recourse if it comes to that.

HomerSimpson 07-03-2009 07:25 PM

both, programers and partners can suck sometimes...
so open your eyes when choosing them...

GrouchyAdmin 07-03-2009 08:11 PM

So, a sub-par person was hired sight unseen with an unknown background, and you got screwed. Happens a lot in this industry. :(

Snake Doctor 07-03-2009 08:27 PM

I'm so sick of hearing "you get what you pay for".

People who pay alot get fucked over all the time too.

You don't get what you pay for, but you do get what you deserve.

If you hire a guy/company based on price alone, or on a 5 minute interview, without checking references, without checking other projects he's done, without asking for some sample code, then you get what you deserve.

Charging more doesn't make you better.

Same thing goes with hosting companies. The ones who charge the most tell you it's because they're the best, but that's not necessarily true. I've had excellent support and service from lower priced companies, and had bad experiences with expensive ones that were supposedly the best.

Do your homework and don't make snap decisions. If you're in a hurry, you need to ask yourself why the guy who can start right away, can start right away.
There's an old saying, if you want to get something done, give it to a busy man.:2 cents:
