Some of the biggest, most popular boards use phpbb. Just go to bigboards.com and see for yourself what software the big guys use and there will be your answer right there. VB is the most overpriced piece of software in existence. You'd have to be an idiot to pay for it and continue paying for it each year. If you have money to waste and really can't think of any way to spend it, then buy VB. You will still not have the best software, but you will have money spent.

phpBB if you want to be hacked.

Babaganoosh 07-03-2009 10:43 PM

Whichever forum script forces users to use the fucking search function before asking a question that has been answered repeatedly. I wish GFY would use that script.

MovieMaster 07-03-2009 10:58 PM

you might be surprised that you can install it yourself. I didn't think I could, but I tried before contacting my managed hosting provider. It was easy. Didn't need them at all.

+1, VB has an insane amount of support and add-ons that are easy as hell to work with. It puts everything else to shame. There is no other excuse except being a cheapskate. :2 cents:

You should try http://www.phorum.org/

A lot of REAL big companies use that script, because its simple, fast and fairly secure (so far)
