I got tickets to the Jackson Memorial

I got an email while ago from the Staples Center lottery.

I don't see any way that I can be at Dodger Stadium tomorrow to redeem my voucher for tickets and wristbands, but I would go if I could.

Yeah, I am not sure that selling them would work.

I had to be logged into my ticketmaster account to be able to print them, and an ID is required to trade the voucher for the tickets.

The notion is tempting though. :) There is a pair on ebay for $8k.

I also really am not comfortable with the idea of selling tickets to a memorial thing.

I hate when I have morals. ;)

420 07-05-2009 07:15 PM

Sounds like in order to sell them you need to fly in and pick up the tickets, meet the buyer, fly home.

Adam X 07-05-2009 07:35 PM

LOL all tickets for sale on there have been flagged for removal...

shitty to sell tickets to a mans death memorial.. wtf is this world coming to

pretty soon we'll see reality shows like The Running Man on TV... GenX'ers remember that movie?

Doesn't sound like that would work, according to CNN:

Winner must meet other requirements "in order to avoid the reselling of tickets," according to a news release from the Jackson family.

The notification gives them a secret code and instructions to appear at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday to claim their tickets.

Along with their tickets, they will get the wristbands "one of which will be placed on their wrist at that time," the family statement said.

"Fans attending the memorial service must have both a valid ticket AND a wristband," the Jackson family statement said. "Wristbands that have been ripped, taped or otherwise mutilated will be void."

Maybe you could sell the remaining wristband and ticket but it hardly seems worth it. Unless someone is willing to overly compensate for your troubles.

I wonder how many people aren't going to show up.

You should probably let them know that you won't be able to attend. There are actually a lot of real Michael Jackson fans (as nutty as they maybe) that would have actually bent over backwards to attend this funeral........you seem pretty casual about it. Not sure which would be worse....allowing the ticket go to waste...or selling it. I'm going with the former.

I'm a fan. :)

Though sometimes, like it or not, there is only so far backwards that one can bend.

wdsguy 07-05-2009 08:05 PM

why did you even bother applying for tickets if

1. You are not even going to make it

2. You don't plan on selling them.

CaptainHowdy 07-05-2009 08:20 PM

Can't you just send your surrogate ??

SilentKnight 07-05-2009 09:26 PM

Guess I'll have to skip on the opportunity to see Al Sharpton moonwalk. :disgust

Tickets to a memorial - gimme a fucking break.

That's beyond gauche.

I can't sell them; that is just not right.

I am talking to a girl that I know through my mainstream stuff who lives in LA. She is going to try to arrange to get off work *if* she can use the voucher to get the tickets. I truly don't think they are transferable. When you signed up, you had to give your name, and I'm sure they can compile a list if they want to.

How much for you to take me on a date to the staples center? You should already be camped out at dodger stadium unless you want to watch it on tv from the nokia building.

Quagmire 07-06-2009 05:21 AM

I hate to say it, but this whole memorial thing reminds me of the funeral scene from Adventures of Ford Fairlane.

As much as I admire some musicians and actors, I would never attend a funeral or memorial for one. I didn't know the person, only knew the characters they portrayed.

Because she can.

selena 07-06-2009 08:55 AM

well, everything I can provide to make it happen is in the hands of some guy in LA.

I gave them to him, and I really, really hope that he can use them.

He's supposed to let me know later today if he was able to get them without me being there.

According to the email that I got, it was going to be randomly assigned on the Staples vs Nokia thing, so there was no advantage to going early.

We'd have to agree to disagree on that subject, as I do not believe, nor have I ever, that he was a pedophile.

On a more pleasant note, I am very happy that my guy from LA was able to get the tickets. He took a friend of a friend who is a huge fan, and I've gotten email from him today via his phone. The tickets were for the Staples center, and they are already there.

So they didn't go to waste, which I am relieved about. :)
