OK WTF, now GFY is crashing IE for me too

GFY has been crashing Firefox for me for days now, but as of this morning, I am also getting crashes when viewing in IE.

so far from investigating, GFY is the only site to do this to my browser.

Not sure what the issue is, but damn its annoying, I havent been coming here much then I popped in and bam now it crashes my browsers everytime, and YES i upgraded Firefox lol

Yngwie 07-07-2009 09:55 AM

That's very odd. That doesn't happen to me in either browser.

Fletch XXX 07-07-2009 09:58 AM

i have to post really quick and usually after i post, after the post shows, gfy crashes

Fletch XXX 07-07-2009 09:59 AM

i have disabled all addons, reinstalled latest firefox etfc... same thing

(crashed while making this post)

Machete_ 07-07-2009 10:00 AM

Maybe it's some bit of cached crud.

This current skin is SUPER "heavy" thats for sure. The background having animation is a real hog for instance. If it was static and standard image, it'd be normal I bet.

ps: try flash upgrade(?) browsers share the same flash right?

the animations in the background are definitely silly. IE was giving me all kinds of weird issues (the background image for reality gang flashing through pages as they load) just running gfy lol i normally do not use IE at all, just to check pages/html/designs

right now im on google chrome, fresh install didnt even have it on this machine until just now, lets see how long i can surf until it crashes lol

the header alone is more then 2MB grafx :1orglaugh

StuartD 07-07-2009 10:11 AM

Yeah, it's tough to diagnose but it could be flash as it's rather hit and miss with flash ads... so you may be able to do a few things, reply and get a flash ad and poof... browser dies.

Kick Ass Chat 07-07-2009 10:13 AM

Since nobody else has mentioned or experienced this problem I'm guessing this is a local problem with you.:2 cents::2 cents:

Platinumpimp 07-07-2009 10:14 AM

No problems here...

hmmm ok lemme do more diagnosing, ive been very busy working on stuff and just ignored it since its ONLY gfy crashing lol, ive never had issues with Firefox before this

Iron Fist 07-07-2009 10:18 AM

Complain about it to Ice... :1orglaugh

Fletch XXX 07-07-2009 10:19 AM

k i upgraded flash lets see if i can make a few posts wqithout ff crashing

Fletch XXX 07-07-2009 10:21 AM

nope crashed immediate after second post (i made in another thread)

AssAssassin 07-07-2009 10:22 AM

It was happening to me a while back and it turned out that my flash plugin needed to be reinstalled.

Fletch XXX 07-07-2009 10:22 AM

this is very odd, considering I have multiple computers online running all kinds of old browsers, from IE6 and Firefox 3.0 etc and they surf fine.... someonthing must be conflicting on this machine, i did just clear the reader_s virus off but thats the only issues ive had on this machine , runs fine and i do my work on it.

IE and FF working for me.

I recently reformated a laptop that was crashing.
It turned out that the hard drive was bad in some areas.
I reformatted a partition that excluded the bad area and the problem
appears to be solved.

baddog 07-07-2009 10:59 AM

Try adding noscript to your FF. Sounds like you have a bug of some sort though.

yeah - that was what I was going to reply - block the flash ads as this sounds like the cause. I've been having problems in FF and Flash10 recently fwiw

Fletch XXX 07-07-2009 11:26 AM

surfing now on ff with noscript

Fletch XXX 07-07-2009 11:29 AM

baddog 07-07-2009 12:05 PM

Time to run a virus scan.

machine is clean, there are no popups, no processes running that are assocaited with any virus.

Ive dealt with enough virii over the years that I dont feel this has anything to do with that.

ive successfully cleaned reader_s and vundo off multiple machines including for others and this doesnt seem like a virus related issue to me. unless there is a virus that only crashes your browser if you come to gfy lol

borked 07-07-2009 12:13 PM

I just thought of something, because something similar was happening to me a long time back, but I can't for the life of me remember what I did to fix.

However, one o the procedures which stirs som grey matter is something about favicon.ico - when you bookmark a page, if that page uses a favicon, the bookmark will always try to load that favicon to display in the bookmarks menu, continuously.

http://www.aignes.com/deadlink_history.htm

I used that to remove all dead links in my bookmarks (can't be sure it was that exact thing, but it did the trick to track down dead bookmarks.

Please try that route, as I can't remember anything else working, but I know that removed lots of dead bookmarks, and the next memory of the situation is I had no more crashing probs.

Sorry this is vague, but hey, I know I have have lots of disconnected neurons....but it may help

are you using 3.5 FF? I had some similar issues with some other sites, not GFY, but that fixed the issues for me when I upgraded

Fletch XXX 07-07-2009 01:00 PM

JohnnyPearl 07-07-2009 01:05 PM

Same shit happening to me on my other PC. IE 8 and the latest FireFox.

skrog 07-07-2009 01:12 PM

Running fine here in FF 3 and IE 7 on Vista 64-bit

Ecchi22 07-07-2009 01:25 PM

Maybe you should run another antivirus/spyware/shit scan. If you are experienced with it, you should know that you can't be *sure* that you're clean.

Which operating system are you using? Which antivirus software are you using?

I assume that you might want to try Advanced Windows Care and/or do full system scan with Kaspersky Internet Security

Problem might be unrelated to what I post, but still.. One of the steps that you need to isolate the problem :)

I understand, and as I said, after having to remove reader_s and vundo off machines in the past (as recent as last week) I have made it a habit to constantly run spyware programs like malware Bytes, Hicjack This, CCCleaner and other to not only keep spyware off machine but keep things like registry clean etc... when I say clean, its because I run clean up programs weekly. This is my work machine, so I keep it clean.

I run various things weekly. Hijackthis, malwarebytes, superantispyware, iobits windowscare etc... all they find is tracking cookies and clean the registry. I do that manually weekly.

I just ran iobits windowcare and all it found was tracking cookies and temp files from design work ive been doing etc..

I love Advanced windows care! I run it a few times a day and it keeps my machine running faster along with some of the addons included with it like smart ram
