What is that noise at soccer matches
 

I'm not a soccer/football fan but I did watch some of the Fed cup when the US played and saw a special on ESPN's outside the lines on the World Cup. My question is what is that noise that sounds like an angry bee hive that goes on through the entire match? What makes it? I have to admit it sounds eerily cool whatever it is.

I know the crowds get vocal and chant/sing and stuff, but the constant buzzzzz for lack of a better description goes on and on. To me it sounds like an angry bee hive.

That's the sound Europeans make when they're excited.

haha. I've often wondered that myself. it is constant, makes me wonder if it is some sort of pink noise generated to quell the overpowering roar of the crowd perhaps.

It's those damn airhorns those assholes have. They blast them all game!

Only happens over there. You don't get that anywhere else, not as bad as that anyway.

Actually....during the Outside the Lines show yesterday they did show a couple fans with these things, but they never referenced why they had them. Along with those wooden noisemakers I'm starting to understand.

I can only imagine how loud that has to be at the stadium.

Those things are annoying and need to go away.

A vuvuzela, african blow-fuckingnoise-making thingie, soon to be banned from the stadiums.

It always sounds like a bunch kazoos to me and is fuck all annoying.
