Content girls: pay your taxes!
it never fails: every so often I get a huge package from the IRS with some new girl who owes them a bucket of money from a few years back
so i have to waste my valuable time filling it out telling the IRS that she doesn't work for me, that i don't have any new address or info on her, then mail it back at my own expense fellow producers in the US, i'm sure you get this a lot as well right? so content girls... don't be a deadbeat: pay your fucking tax bills so the IRS leaves the honest businesses that actually employ people alone to continue contributing to this economy  i swear i'll start posting their stage names soon (not, but it would feel good to do so) :upsidedow |
HAHAHA, you get the same thing at strip clubs. I used to get certified letters from the IRS all the time for various strippers past and present, usually followed by phone calls. I would just tell them the same thing, the girls are independent contractors and aren't actually employed by me, so there is nothing I can do. We had girls that were on disability for some type of psychosis and getting a government check on top of making cash every day dancing, but they couldn't be bothered with paying taxes...

I guess this is worth a bump right.

hummmm...
Content dilemma : - pay taxes or - shoot up ... Let me get back to you on that ...( Palin_talk) |
Yea, I just got a few of these, too. Ugh.

It happens here too, but usually it suffices by sending them a copy of the model contract where amongst other things it states they are not employed by you (at least here that is)
If you have the model contracts digitally, it usually takes 10 mins work, still 10 mins too much though :P |
thats obviously the same all over the world... :-/

you 1099 them?

Other than that every club I know of in the U.S. uses the "tip out" scam to force the girls to pay to work. Here in Vegas it's currently $75 a night UP FRONT that a stripper has to pay out to the house mom the minute they walk in the door before they are allowed on the floor. I have never heard of the IRS coming after strippers (and I was married to 2 and lived with 2 that were all BIG money makers) because it's a cash business. I guess there are exceptions such as you are describing but I'm not sure how the IRS even knew those girls existed or were working at your club. |

As for the IRS finding out about the girls, there are so many ways it could happen. Even though we classified them as independent contractors a lot of the girls still put the club location as their employer when applying for credit, apartments, and so on. Some girls come into the business trying to do it the right way, and will initially report some type of income to the IRS from dancing, even though they were way under reporting. Then after a year or so they just quit filing taxes completely, even though at this point they are in the system as a dancer and are still living a high dollar lifestyle with tons of bills and expenses. The most common way though was child and spousal support. So many of these girls had kids with or were married to deadbeats, so when their marriages split they actually ended up having to pay spousal support, or if they were married to a decent working guy the guy ended up with custody of the kids because the girl was a wreck. They almost always fell behind on their payments for whatever reason, the club was listed as their employer even though they are independent contractors, and pretty soon the IRS is sniffing around. You are right in that we never kept track of the money they were paid and never sent a 1099 to the IRS for a dancer, but if a girl is not smart she can most definitely end up in the system if she has an ex that knows how much she made and is spiteful... |

There are literally millions of people who never pay taxes, never collect social security or medicare or any of that govt. handout stuff. Just go to a flea market and you'll see folks making a pretty damn good living with a cash business that could care less about taxes. I'm one of those guys who thinks we should abolish the income tax anyway and go with national sales tax. Then all the cash people would be paying taxes...and the more you spend the more money the govt. takes in. But the govt. is greedy and wants that "Prepaid" spot. lol |
