Can this really be true?

ok..let me start out by saying nothing in this post is meant to be mean or judgemental, but it is really for an understanding....this can easily be men and not women...but i heard this stat when this show was being tested and i thought then about this and then again tonight when the show premiered....

The average woman on a dating show is a size 2
The average AMERICAN woman is a size 14/16 (did notice they specified American)

doesn't this seem very lopsided?

i understand the size 2 for most dating shows, they want ratings, they want the supermodel look...even in our industry small petite woman seem to be the norm....we have girls like Gianna Michaels, who in my opinion is not large by any means, shes a woman with curves, meat on her bones....and a very attractive woman, Brandy Talore is another, and the list can go on...but these women are more curvy or larger than most (just look at our title "Soft In The Middle"...a movie filled with women that i would not consider by any means large...yeah larger than a petite girl)..but you cant say all the girls in our industry are 2's..i can think of plenty of 5-8 (maybe higher, dont know the sizes that well)

but to jump from a 2 to a 14/16 seems very extreme...can this really be true? Why? is the American diet that screwed up that you are either a 2, constantly working out and eating so differently, or a 14/16?...Maybe this show was just showing the old saying "Big girls need lovin' too"...and i respect that...but if that statistic is right, then isnt there a bigger problem with the foods we eat?...is it a depression thing?...cant loose the baby weight, if you had kids?...what is it?...why so drastic?

where are the girls that are say 5-9 in size? is there really more 14/16 women than what i thought (when i sold men & womens clothes and 7/9 seemed average) than middle numbers? Are sizes that different until you get in to higher numbers and many women are only a 14/16 because everything smaller is so close together that it doesnt really matter? Did womens sizes in clothing change? like the difference between a 2 and a 6 is not the same between a 9 and a 13...

i really find that stat kind of scary for no other reason than if this is really the case, then its a nail in the coffin of really how bad american diet has become...

again, i am really interseted, esp since i have been learning my personal diet and watching the foods i eat and found tons of crap in the foods i used to eat...

thoughts? comments? opinions? and again, im being 100% serious and not looking to judge or make anyone upset or defensive or even uncomfortable, just seemed that the average is higher than when i was growing up and wasnt bombarded by supermodel women..just normal average women...was it always 14/16 and im just finding this out now? I'm just trying to understand...

What about other countries besides America? Is this the average size of other countries?

yes smiley is not ranting, nor being opinionated....hes actually asking a real question...a thought provoking conversation is my goal... but again, i am asking on GFY so i expect a certain amount of jokes from this question....:thumbsup

MrMaxwell 07-28-2009 10:03 PM

I would not be fucking surprised if it were the average in the states
Most of the poor people (the masses) are overweight lazy fuck ups
It's sick, sad, and ridiculous

That said.. I cum hard in thick well built women... I even enjoy huge ones sometimes.. but really a woman should be HEALTHY I don't know what size but not size zero and not size 25 either
Maybe size 10, I guess?
THICK

kane 07-28-2009 10:08 PM

I think there are a lot of size 5/6 out there, but like you say on TV they want the hottest one they can get. People watch a TV show for fantasy. It is kind of like porn. When I watch porn I want to see a babe. I know I have no chance in hell of ever going out with Jordan Capri so she is a fantasy girl. That is what TV is. The same goes for music. We want out entertainers to be hot and fit. An average woman is real life and people watch TV to get away from real life.

omg Smiley, i love you right now, LOL. i don't know why this made me laugh so hard. and here i am struggling to go back down to a 4 from 5. i am just a hair under 5'7" and should not have to stress about this so much. but in this biz i look like a cow in pics when i am "normal" size. i feel very, very self concious when i am not a size 4 (but it won't stop me from eating Krispy Kremes when you buy them for me :winkwink:). if i were a couple inches shorter i would have to be a size 2 to be confident. thank goodness i have a little height.

kane 07-28-2009 10:12 PM

Oh, and as for the American diet. Yes, it is that bad. part of it is that food that is cheap and easy to prepare is very bad for you. We have become a nation where convenience rules so more and more people are eating at fast food places and buying food that is flat out bad for you than ever before. Looking back on my life I don't ever remember being taught about nutrition in school. The cafeteria served burgers and pizza and fried chicken and even in health class they covered basic nutrition, but there was never anything that was directed at helping you come up with a good, healthy diet. Of course you can find that stuff on your own, but many people do not. They are raised on crap food, ate it in school and just continue down that path until it is too late.

You can't blame it on fast food anymore. Most fast food places have come out with healtheir options. When I eat at McDonald's I eat the grilled chicken sandwich without bacon and the yogurt parfait. It is up to each person to watch what they eat and to work out.

It was also never up to the schools to teach us about nutrition. That was our parents job to do. The school may have briefly covered it, but it is not hard to figure out what is and isn't healthy. The schools now are serving pretty healthy foods.

actually yes you can blame fast food alot more than ppl think....just because McD's has what they call "healthy" foods...doesnt make them "healthy"...look at their salads....when you and i make a salad...its lettuce, tomatoes, onions, etc etc etc....all real ingredients in raw form that we chop up....when McD's makes theirs, its processed onions, processed lettuce....etc...the crap they add to their foods to keep them fresh longer are also not truly healthy...

think of KFC trying to be all good with their new grilled chicken....great idea and the masses fled to eat it (like cattle to a trough) and say "im eating healthy at KFC"...then you find out that KFC is using BEEF additives to make their chicken tasty....MSG is another sneaky lill ingredient in the foods we eat...yeah you may not find it in Chinese take out anymore, but you will find plenty of it in anything Frito-Lay makes...

i agree that it is up to the individual to eat healthier...i lost 45lbs cutting out fast food, eating basically half an American portion in restaurants and just watching what i eat...i never really drank soda/pop, but have increase the water intake...

Julie....you look fine as is...dont buy into the size mentality...

I am 5'9" and fluctuate between size 2 and 4. Its because of genetics thank god because I hate working out. Truthfully women my age that are a size 10 are probably way more healthier than I am. I know in my age group (I am 36) I am not the norm. I get my balls busted all the time for being thin. People just assume I don't eat.

Socks 07-29-2009 09:15 AM

What's scary is 14/16 is the AVERAGE. Wonder what the real heffers are wearing, like a 38 or something?

That's fucking ridiculous.

Also genetics play a role, and way of life. You don't see any Asian countries on that list.

I agree.

I was in the store a few days ago and this 6'3, 350 pound lady got one pack of the
super-sized reeses (peanut butter/chocolate) for each of her 3-4 yr old daughters.

That's bullshit! I can't eat one of those and I'm an adult.

The lady is teaching her kids to be fat. She probably has no clue that the candy is not
good for the kids.

yes, genetics i believe do play a part...i have know plenty of women like yourself, they can eat as much as they want, dont work out and really never gain weight...

I did gain weight with having my kids, I was about 35 pounds heavier and because I never had a weight issue my whole life not losing it was really difficult for me. I actually ended up losing the weight because my mother got diagnosed with cancer and I was so stressed out that I couldn't eat. Really not a good way to lose it. I ended up being 98 pounds for awhile which was dangerous.

stress can do that...and yeah not the best way to loose weight, but i can completely relate...but youre back to youre normal weight and leveled out? back to the size you were before kids...

Honez 07-29-2009 11:48 AM

Back when I was in my 30's and a size 0 (which is where I want to be again), I played hell trying to find clothes that fit me. Stores just didn't carry sizes that small and I found myself shopping in the girls departments a lot. Nowadays it isn't uncommon to find size 00 in a lot of stores. So while the "average" American woman may be a 14/16, I know there are a lot more tiny people out there than there used to be.

I go between 120 - 125. I was 118 before I had my kids but I have a little more boobs, ass and hips now though not much! :1orglaugh
Technically I am underweight for my height but my mother and sister had the same body type as me, I just got a little more height from my dad than my sister did. I studied to be a ballerina for 13 years so being long and skinny is normal for me.

You are right that in the end it is up to people to educate themselves and parents to educate their kids. But that is not reality. The reality is that half the parents in this world are too consumed with their own lives to give half a shit about what their kids are doing. From what I understand there are healthier options at a lot of schools, but there is still pizza and burgers and many of the kids pick them. Most fast food places do offer healthy options, but many people don't realize what they are really getting. For example you can go to McDonalds and get some salads. One of them has bacon on it. If you get a chicken salad they ask if you want it crispy or grilled. So if you get it crispy with bacon and add a bunch of regular dressing on it, it really isn't any better for you than a big mac.

I would love to see schools have a nutrition course (and maybe they do now, I graduated in 1989) where they spend a week or two just going over food types and explaining why some things that seem like they might be healthy really aren't. Most of the kids will ignore it, because eating healthy is something you have to learn and commit to, but some just might get it and make a few small changes in their lives while they are young that will help them greatly as they get older.

I think a ton of people just have no clue. If it says "food" on the label, they assume it's safe/good to eat. I know a couple who have been filling their toddler's sippy cup with soda for her night time snack. She's now three and has lost all of her new teeth to rot already! The parents aren't abnormally large, but they're on the heavy side of average. It's just a lack of education, I think.

bronco67 07-29-2009 01:36 PM

I was just on a cruise with my wife. When we came back all she did was tell everyone how fat everyone on the boat was. She described these entire families of fatties, that loaded their plates at the buffet, and said almost every girl weighed at least 160 or more.

I saw just the opposite. While much of the hotness on the boat was in the 17-21 year old range, there were many girls in great shape. I think she was just looking at fatties for some reason. The majority of people I saw in the 2000 people on the boat were average looking to fit.

One of us is wrong, and I don't think it was me.

i agree...education is a big part of why people dont know....

if you cant sum it up in 10 words or less (look at above post)...people wont learn....

people see "healthy" and think its all good food...maybe if it was made by a mom & pop place it can be...but if its mass produced, then odds are it may look like lettuce, taste like lettuce, smell like lettuce....but it isnt just lettuce...

Yes, there is a lot of misdirection in food advertising and a lot of "damage control" style of propoganda out there. Lots of companies are trying to cash in on the "natural and healthy" craze now, like Kraft's new salad dressings, but it doesn't mean the product is actually better for you to eat.

Proper food used to take up 30% of a family's budget. Are we heading back to that level, in order to pay for real, healthy calories? Would that be a good or a bad thing? I have no idea.

Back in my school days (70s) I remember we typically had 1 or 2 overweight kids in every class photo. That was it. They stood out from the group like a sore thumb.

These days, my daughter's class photo(s) looks like a group shot from a Jenny Craig 'before' session. The thin kids are the obvious minority in the crowd.

I take that to be a sign of the times.

And that's here in Canada - not the U.S. - so I'm assuming overweight issues aren't confined to south of the border.

Both the U.S. and Canada have become consumer nations - powered by fast food junk restaurants. The typical family unit has shifted away from the old-fashioned homecooked meal around the family dinner table ... to Wendy McHarvey's drive-thru window.

Let's keep in perspective what a size 14 or even 16 looks like. The OP mentioned Gianna Michaels... Well I've never seen her in person, but I think she might be around a 14 or 16.

Check out this pic (hotlink)

The sizes are UK sizes. The 8 is a US 6, the 12 is a US 10 and the 16 is a US 14.

I have no idea.

i think it would be beneficial, but who am i....

Check out this pic (hotlink)

The sizes are UK sizes. The 8 is a US 6, the 12 is a US 10 and the 16 is a US 14.

thanks...good to see what UK vs USA sizes chart...

if this is the case...then that show last night must of had even larger than 14/16...they all looked much larger (again, no slamming, just observation)...than what is a 14 here

Exactly. I have not seen the show but looked up some pics. Most of the women probably start at around a size 22 or so if I had to guess. So this show isn't about "average" sized women, because average sized women look like that size 14/16 up there.

I dont think this is just down to what food you eat but its also down to the portions you eat. Our burgers, hotdogs, doughnuts ect and meals in the UK are much smaller portions than what you would get in the USA. I think that the USA are used to bigger meals than what we eat over here in the UK.. Mind you from what we are told in the media we are fast catching up with the USA for overweight/obese people here in the UK now

completely agree..portion sizes are crazy in the USA....i remember when good ole Damian (magic guy) came to visit and he ordered a simple burger & fries...this plate was overflowing with food...he ate like 1/3 of what was on the plate and said..done

growing up italian, that was my issue later in life...i was raised to "clean your plate".easy to do when youre a kid and running around outside all day (yeah im dating myself..kids today dont run around, they sit and push "X" to run)...as portions got bigger and my lazy computer desk sitting ass got bigger & lazier...this motto doesnt work...when i lost my weight it mainly started with retraining my brain to what a portion was....now i order and eat about half and then send it away.....

omg Smiley, i love you right now, LOL. i don't know why this made me laugh so hard. and here i am struggling to go back down to a 4 from 5. i am just a hair under 5'7" and should not have to stress about this so much. but in this biz i look like a cow in pics when i am "normal" size. i feel very, very self concious when i am not a size 4 (but it won't stop me from eating Krispy Kremes when you buy them for me :winkwink:). if i were a couple inches shorter i would have to be a size 2 to be confident. thank goodness i have a little height.

Hot chick syndrome can be very dangerous... gorgeous women should not be worried about being "cows". You've got nothing to stress over.

Now here I am average at a size 2 - 4 and would rather be built by any of those girls. I have no curves and it sucks.
