Yahoo & MS = kiss your Yahoo traffic goodbye

Microsoft's Bing technology will be powering Yahoo's searches according to CNBC 5 minutes ago. That is the most detail I have heard on the agreement so far. So if you have SEO positions for a site from Yahoo but not Bing this is bad.

Jdoughs 07-29-2009 06:08 AM

I could handle that, would be nice for sure.

PR_Sebas 07-29-2009 06:09 AM

It'll be interesting to see what happens.

katharos 07-29-2009 06:10 AM

what does it means? that bing and yahoo will have the same algo so results will be same at both engines?

Klen 07-29-2009 06:22 AM

That would be actually good for me,since i have good position at bing while i am nowhere at yahoo.

San 07-29-2009 06:24 AM

Great news for sure.

megatgpdotnet 07-29-2009 06:27 AM

Not too cool...

katharos 07-29-2009 06:29 AM

and what exactly is good news here? to have two different traffic sources is better than to have three? yeah it will be good for all the lamers who dont know how to get into yahoo in normal way ...

dav3 07-29-2009 06:34 AM

that would be pretty cool

Agreed. I prefer more competition.

At this rate, soon Google is going to find themselves in the crosshairs of an antitrust lawsuit like M$ was. They keep creeping closer to that with some of their latest motivations.

:2 cents:

woj 07-29-2009 08:16 AM

who cares, real seos get their traffic from google... bing + yahoo is just a nice bonus...

Kard63 07-29-2009 08:27 AM

Bing seems obsessed with my Wordpress archive pages that don't do shit for me on the other SE's. I was thinking about nofollow/noindexing them so my PR didn't leak to them. Guess I shouldn't do that now.

acctman 07-29-2009 08:31 AM

Bing is pretty good, less spam results more cleaner listing. I'm all for bing

Sounds like the deal doesn't really close until early 2010.

yahoo's algorithm is totally fucked

if you have a quality site, you have much better chances to rank on Bing.com

Bing algo + yahoo traffic = WIN

not sure what you find amusing, google has close to 75% of the market share, so that's where the big boys play, amateurs get their traffic from yahoo...

Marshal 07-29-2009 09:16 AM

tube sites are not dominating bing serps... :thumbsup

Zorgman 07-29-2009 10:04 AM

Thats good for me, getting some nice results from Bing atm.

cybermike 07-29-2009 10:06 AM

mmcfadden 07-29-2009 11:37 AM

Good news doesn't come out every day!!

Me i'm going to celebrate and dance naked for awhile!!!

mynameisjim 07-29-2009 11:44 AM

Bing and Yahoo have about 30% of the search market and I think Microsoft in backing Bing for the long term so expect them to grow via some heavy marketing and integration with their software.

Google has to be nervous. Despite people saying they are taking over the world, they only have one profitable product, and that is search. If Yahoo/Bing can start chipping away at that, Google has very little recourse.

I would predict you are going to see some major changes from Google search which has been pretty stagnate for years.

Tickler 07-29-2009 02:54 PM

With Google starting to fill the 1rst page SERPs with all their own junk(news, blogs, tubes, images, etc.), I'm thinking there might be some shifting to B+Y for searching.

halfpint 07-29-2009 03:05 PM

I get more hits from Bing than I do Yahoo now so this is pretty good news for me :)

american pervert 07-29-2009 03:54 PM

ha! if anything it means nightsurf will be running all the adult now and you'll have to kiss their asses.

have fun.

I saw someone post in another thread a different equation

Bing + Yahoo = Boo

haha

Sosa 07-29-2009 04:01 PM

Sounds good to me, make the switch Yahoo!

$5 submissions 08-02-2009 12:32 AM

People who make money off Yahoo will lose money in the interim while they rank up for Bing. The good news is that Bing is easier to work with compared to Google.
