Google snuck one by me...

As I'm downloadin' Google Earth to install on the system earlier, I noticed the Google updater was also d/ling (and attempting to install) the Chrome browser at the same time - with no advance warning.

I d/l'ed and installed Google Earth on another system about a month ago and it didn't try installing Chrome at that time - so it's something new Google's gone and done without warning.

Not that I mind the install of Chrome (I have it on other systems)...but its a little deceptive IMO to bundle it with Earth and not mention it anywhere.

Like I said, I didn't mind - just surprised me google would bundle it that way. Not their usual modus operandi.

it's google's internet and they can do what they want!!!

or so i've heard

Nautilus 07-30-2009 02:40 AM

They must be desperate to get their browser out there - from what I heard after the initial spark of public interest, Chrome isn't gaining in popularity.

James124 07-30-2009 02:57 AM

it's a disaster for Google if they can't even make a browser popular...

Manowar 07-30-2009 03:54 AM

everyone loves firefox too much

CherryV 07-30-2009 06:21 AM

I run my life on Chrome and business on FF...

As soon as we can have plugins and add-ons for Chrome im saying bye bye to FF.

Chrome is just too easy and quick.

Ron2k1 07-30-2009 06:52 AM

Sounds kinda desperate from Google to do this, but on other hand Googles owns the internet.

They just do whatever they want

Deesnuts 07-30-2009 09:54 AM

yeah no kiddin

SmokeyTheBear 07-30-2009 10:07 AM

When you click through and hit the ?Download Google Earth? button , a special checkmark is set by default: It reads (visibly), ?Include Google Chrome, a new web browser for Windows.?

Same here... Google Chrome is 10x faster and I love the omnibar.

That and the latest FF version seem to have a bug regarding the tabs, at least for me they keep jumping out of the window just by barely touching them... too fucking annoying.

These days I just use FireFox for a couple of projects where I need the add-ons I have... otherwise it's all Chrome!

PR_Sebas 07-30-2009 10:44 AM

I didnt mind Chrome but I stuck with firefox

perhaps its a mouse sensitivity issue as I have never had this issue.

yeah, they all do that shit, don't know why that ever became an acceptable way of doing things by the big companies, should be considered shady as it is and a black mark on the pr of these big companies that do shit like that, like changing your browser homepage, or adding their autoloaded program to your registry when your computer starts up, etc....
