I was robbed by the police!

Seriously, down here in South America there is no worse crooks then the police ...

Me and my buddy got a little too drunk a while ago ... my buddy had to sit down at the side of the road, big mistake. Police showed up right away, said we had to sleep it off in jail.

What the fuck ever ... they brought us in and frisked us, found a pipe in my pocket... I thought I was fucked for real.

Then they found the money.... at first they gave it back, I thought great, nice cops! They sent us home and said we had to come back the next day but they refused to give us the address to the station :Oh crap

When we got out I reached down my pocket again and noticed it was all gone.. robbed us out of $300 and they did not even give the pipe back.

Bastards!!

You guys ever got fucked over by the police?

It was the same in Thailand ... at least they were friendly about it.

I was pulled over once for giving a girl a ride on my motorcycle with none of us wearing helmets ... obviously that was BS cause no one wear helmets, sure it's illegal but it's not like they would pull over Thai's for doing that.

Anyway, he asks me why we got no helmets on, I say we did not get any at the rental place. He asks me for my license, I say I don't have one so, he asks me for my passport. Again, I say I don't have one.

This is where I thought it would be an issue, not having a passport is always ground for them to fuck with you. So he says I'm going to have to go downtown to pay a fine but, he's not interested in taking me there he's just trying to explain how to get there.

I ask him how much it is and he tells me it's 400B ($10) ... so I'm like, "- You know officer, I really don't know how to get there, maybe I can give you the money and you'll take it there for me?".

I swear he shines up like the sun and asks "- You want to pay now?", I stick him 500B and he walks off but, this is where it gets funny, he comes back and without no one noticing passes me my CHANGE lol

Then we get to drive off with no helmets and the girl on the back of the motorcycle like nothing ever happen.

Gotta love it! :thumbsup

What country are you in? I had something similar here in Brazil but it has gotten a lot better in the last few years.

It is ok in Pattaya and places where cops have enough foreigners to go by.

Try driving in BKK, after you've been stopped for the 100th time you might not love it so much.

Every time I drive past a cop in BKK I hear "farang, farang..." they will find any excuse to fine you.

Here is a few from the past couple of months (i am excluding the obvious one like no helmet)

- not driving in the left lane (I was but 10 cops were standing in it with their arms outstretched what was I suppose to do? Drive through them?)
- Having my front tyre on the line at a red light (At least 3 Thais were completely in front of the line)
- Turning left at a red light not waiting for green (never seen anyone wait)
- Starting too early at a red light (was green and I was about the third to go)
- Having a licence but not an international licence
- Having an international licence but the wrong kind (so they say)
- Sitting in the wrong place on the motorbike (I was carrying a box from homepro)
- Dangerous driving (yes yes it is possible, this one made me laugh the most, I was going at 40 in a strait line in the middle of the afternoon if you know how Thais drive you would laugh to)

There is at least half a dozen more I can't quite remember them all...

this is a good one :)

as to the cops in south america, I'd be more than glad if they robbed me of $300 and let me go here in Europe, if I had something on me, like a pipe etc. You could get a lot of shit in some countries here...

yeah I hear you.. never went to Pattaya but all in all I got pretty good treatment in comparison. I was in Chang Mai for most of the time, never had any issues up there except for that one time.

that's pretty obvious that tourists rather pay $10 and go about with their business then go downtown for some bs in a foreign country.

Corruption is what allows me to navigate around here so I welcome it to a certain extent, still your statement is pretty fucking ridiculous.

If a cop can rob you of $300 it means he owns your ass and could have chosen to do whatever he wanted.

I had a friend involved in a car crash in Central America, as he was lying there with broken ribs, a broken leg and possible brain damage the police DOCTOR was saying that unless we paid $5000 he would write that my friend was drunk and responsible for the accident. We had good contacts and the motherfucker ended up begging for forgiveness but I am not sure you would have been "glad" to be in that kind of situation.:2 cents:

John-ACWM 08-01-2009 07:54 AM
