What's the story behind that one?

Did you finally accomplish it online?

I was able to reconnect with a lot of my childhood friends once Facebook became popular.

No...via phone. For 25 years about once a month I would call a random city and get a listing of last names and ask the parties if they were related to my friend. I finally found someone that was and they gave me his phone number and address. I spoke with him today.

I can't figure out the slag name to give you for this. Are you posting because you think it is some kind of accomplishment and are waiting for idiots to boast your ego? Or are you waiting for.... you know what, I erased what I typed because I don't even care what the answer is.

I'm a fool for typing this. The good news is that I didn't have to spend 25 years typing a response.

Congratulations....your therapist thanks you for donating to their cause. (Listening to you prattle on most likely.)

Please tell me that you at least tried the online route (including the $12 people searches) during the last few years?

my search for friend

Ever since the internet I tried to find a musician friend of mine that I played in Big Bands with.

Last year I got an e-mail from his daughter in California.

My friend Dick went to CA with some musician friends to make it in the music business. He was a great jazz upright bass player. Not making it in the music biz he ended up buying into some adult theaters and strip clubs. Built that biz up and sold them and bought a huge boat building/repairing business. Business burned down and with the insurance settlement he bought the biggest luxury boat at Marina Del Rey and started running pleasure cruises to Mexico for show biz people (while he was also running a new star model agency). On one of his cruises he met Gene Roddenberry (Star Trek founder) and was introduced to Dawn Roddenberry, Gene's daughter. He ended up marrying Dawn. LAPD got an annonymous tip that he was running drugs/guns from Mexico. The LAPD set up a bust one day when he returned to port. They litterally tore his huge boat to shreds looking for evidence.....FOUND NOTHING. He demanded they rebuild his boat and they refused. He took them to court and the case went all the way to the U.S. Supreme court and they confirmed the original 50 MILLION DOLLAR judgement. In 1992 they were ordered to PAY UP now. During all this litigation Dick was smoking 3-4 packs of cigarettes a day and ended up with lung cancer. 2 months after he received his 50 MILLION dollar settlement he DIED of lung cancer. His wife, Dawn Roddenberry, ended up with the money. Dick's daughters tried in vein to get some of the money but the Gene Roddenberry rich lawyers beat them at every turn in court. His daughters ended up with absolutely NOT ONE RED CENT.

Very sad story for a talented musician/person.

peace :(
