Anyone heard of this? US Government to search any computer at any time
|
certainly some very disturbing policies coming about lately.
|
I had a complete search entering LAX a while ago. Full laptop, email and HD search. It was a royal pain in the ass.
|
They gave up going after the criminals because they can afford legal advice, so instead they just go after everyone now, and go through everything without any reason.
|
but but but, they said Lord obama would make everything ok!
|
obama to know anything
|
hahaha so youtube is your source for facts damn
|
The policy changes are about file-sharing, illegal copies, and enforcing copyright laws.
Searches at border crossings are already happening. This is P2P propaganda to raise public fears in my opinion. |

When you vote for big government, you get lots of stuff like this.
|
This is a complete invasion of privacy. There must be a reason to search anything, and possibly a warrant. They can't just go scanning every ones hard drives and copying everything - impossible and against your constitutional rights.

Ship your computer ahead and bring a book on the plane.

The current laws aren't working, so just wondering when you do or don't want him to do something about it. Quote:
I say down with Obama on this! Clearly our Industry 'supports' stolen material, clearly we should fight this to make a point that stealing is perfectly fine with the adult industry! |

Not to say that would be fair, to include this industry Doc, I wholeheartedly agree on that point. But the christian right would shit they're pants if they saw that the government was (gasp), also protecting the rights of pornographers all around the world. Fallout like this would end more than one politicians career, if they publicly supported us.

I love how everybody thinks that big brother even cares about them.
It's like walking around wondering what people think about you. Nobody is thinking about you because they are walking around wondering the same thing. Guess what? Most of us are insignificant. Nobody cares about us. |
first thing cops take now is your computer, regardless of crime, this is nothing new LOL
|
I also love how it says "Obama passing new law..."
Obama does not pass laws. That is the job of Congress. They pass them and Obama either signs of vetoes them. If he vetoes them, Congress can still get the law past him. Obama can introduce bills to Congress, but he can't pass them. Neither can his VP, who essentially oversees the Senate. Signing statements are a beast of their own, but they don't even come into play unless Congress passes something in the first place. |

coming here pointing fingers at u.s. is sophmoric attention seeking. |
If anyone here thinks this is an issue of copyrighted material, boy have I got some swamp land in Florida to sell you. This has a lot more to do with tracking, tracing and surveilling. It's a trojan horse that is being used to put another piece in place for the implementation of a total police state.

i never argued with you, i don't argue with people such as you. reread my comments. if you will calm down and stop being defensive you will see i simply asked you to not over-sensationalize the issue, by doing so and not taking action, you appear to be attention seeking. fact is, i am right- you should act (write your representative) on things you disagree with. that's how it's supposed to work. it does no good to cast light on this subject in an irresponsible manner at gfy by making it out to be a u.s. gov deal, notice all the obama comments. it's like people whining about tubes, whine whine and no action. people come here and whine about things yet do nothing to try and change their situation. |

Yes, of course people that do not like Obama are going to take this opportunity to post bad things about him. I, on the other hand, voted for the man. This is not an indirect "slam" against him by any means. The point of this thread is the "bigger picture" and the possibility, not assuming fact, but the possibility of the huge ramifications if something like this were to go through. It is always better to be aware than ignorant. The fact that some people here who have read this thread, can now deduce and make their own opinions now... I have done my job. I also posted this on one of my mainstream blogs as well, so even more people can make opinions... Fact of the matter is that U.S. media does not report everything that it probably should. Chiding me for posting something that has the potential to affect this industry, especially since the large majority of users of this board are "e-based" seems a bit ridiculous. I did not mean to be an asshole, but next time, come at me in a different way, if you have an issue. Responding, calling me names in your first response, is in itself, adolescent imho. |
The government will always try to invade your privacy. It's up to you to come up with new means to protect it. I'm SURE there is a data storage alternative to hard disks already in the works that contains no metals so you can easily sneak it passed security ;)
|
Eventually the government and the powers that be will just label anyone who opposes them a terrorist if you stand up or say anything against them.
Between things like this, the Patriot Act, and TARP (funnellig your money into big business hands) its amazing there aren't riots in the steets... But nobody seems to care or want to stand up and fight for anything except oil in Iraq. hm. |
This is Bullshit!
|
maybe theyll check all the stolen content on your tube sites :thumbsup

ok I maybe not the most Tech Savy here but I think I know a bit...
1- How can they tell that MP3 file in my Laptop or Ipod/Iphone was downloaded on a torrent or simply copied form a CD I have back home? 2- How can they tell that the Microsoft Office Suite I have in my laptop is a legit one or not? 3- How can they tell if the Movie I have in my laptop have been illigally Downloaded or simply copied from a DVD I have back home. (At the begining of movies in French Version of Interpol disclaimer, it says something like : ".... Copy for the private use is allowed ..." That being said, they scanned my MacBook at Quebec Airport when I got back from Xbiz Vegas last year, they were looking for C-P ... Found nothing beside some galleries I was doing for Penthouse because their "search Software" is not working on Macs, gave them a business card and told them that was a good thing actually... Guys were asking me for sites URL.. lol So yes I think that in the future, if you carry a a laptop with you thru Security Check, they will do some "random" searches from time to time... Fantastic when you have short layovers.. |
