Whenever I wonder what I can do to increase sales, I pay more attention to my own porn surfing habits. I figure, I'm a regular guy, and I probably have the same surfing habits as other regular guys, right?

But I don't surf tube sites, and I've never been burned by shady billing practices.

But there is something now that I've never been able to do before: I CAN SURF MY OWN COLLECTION.

Over the years, I've collected hundreds of gigs of porn from paysites, freesites, newsgroups, and trading with friends. And get this: it is ALL stuff I like. I don't have to SEARCH, I don't have to worry about viruses or spyware, and I don't have to pay anything to view it. And it is all VERY personalized!

I just bought a 1.5 TERABYTE external harddrive for $179. I can put 10 years of collected, personalized content all in ONE PLACE. And I can spend WEEKS surfing it all, find mostly content I've completely forgotten about, and never see the same thing twice!

When money is tight, I'm not going to bother with ANYTHING online. I have the ultimate collection already instantly available to me. But massive storage didn't exist 10 years ago, and I think that's why we all made more money THEN.

I believe MASSIVE PERSONAL STORAGE SPACE has hurt our business more than tubes and shady billing practices combined.

Agree with d-null. I have a huge collection of stuff, but there is always something new that attracts my eye. I do try and go over my personal stash and get rid of the old shit, just cause I want to put newer stuff on there.

I could show you 10 pics of "18-20" year olds, and I'd bet $500 that you couldn't tell me 8 correct that are "new or old". I've shot content that I don't even remember. If I haven't seen something in a few years, I might remember that I saw it, but if I liked it then, I still like it NOW.

i think it's a factor - but I can go back to when i was a teenager and had a mountain of porn magazines and duped VHS porn tapes hidden under my bed - I always had my goto girls and scenes - i'd whack it to the same small group all the time. But I still was looking for new porn - hoping to find a new girl/scene to join the elite group. When I moved out on my own and I could actually rent porn videos cuz my family wasn't around I would go into the porn video store and rent 5 videos - i'd fast forward through them looking for the girl/scene on the cover I wanted to see - out of 5 videos I might find one or two scenes i wanted to keep and might make the elite goto porn group. Sometimes after a few viewings i'd realize it wasn't worthy.

and today i am the same way, i have about 20 scenes on my computer, that's all. I only acquire more porn hoping to find an addition to the elite group.

i consider myself average surfer too and that's the counter argument, I think guys are always going to want to find something new to add to their arsenal even when they have amassed a huge collection.

sure, I guess if a guy gets a big enough collection he will always be able to find something that seems new, but there is still alot to be said for a surfer "getting the hots" for a specific girl he comes across on the net, and it doesn't matter if he has a terabyte of porn of 10,000 other girls on his hard drives already, he is horny for the new girl and wants to see more of her.

I'd say that is true for some surfers.

Personally, I almost never look at porn twice. I may be biased because I also never listen to an album again after the first week or two I like it. I also never watch movies twice.

But generally speaking, porn is a consumable. You jerk off to it once or twice then move on. I think some of the older surfers who grew up on a few magazines and one or two VHS tapes that got traded around the neighborhood are more accustomed to the "private stash" mentality. I think newer surfers are more the churn and burn types.

Why collect if you never look at it again? Would you pay for something new before you looked at your old collection?

That can explain surfers that have been online for years collecting porn.

But, new people come online every day. So every day we have new prospective customers coming online for the very first time. They don't have a huge porn collection yet.

Steve, I have to disagree with the magnitude you're assigning to this. It's a factor, but I think a very small one, and one that's been around pre-Internet. Back before video, when magazines were the only practical way for most people to experience porn, plenty of people collected their Playboys.

Steve - I think it's only really the 'collectors' who downloaded stuff. You're probably a collector (got any Admiral Krag?) and so are a good number of your surfers.

My understanding however was that most surfers didn't download stuff not only because of HD space limits but also because they didn't want the wife / GF / mother / kids to find their porn stash, especially once they got broadband - leaving it online was a good thing for them (hmmmmm). And with more regular & better updates, they were always hooked into getting more. Collecting wasn't the thing for them, whacking off was the only thing.

* Note: A pay site is not even an option anymore. Why would I ever need to pay for content again? Honestly? So I skip this idea and do one of the following, in no order:

1) Check out my collection. Usually the best option as it is everything I want.
2) Check out a few tube sites, looking for whatever it is I'm looking for at the time.
3) Hit LiveJasmin and see what girls are dumb enough to be sitting there totally topless.

Every time, without fail, one of those options will get me off. Sometimes a mix of them.

Fully with you though... we have a fully personalized library of pr0n on an inhouse streaming media server, that any tv/computer in the house can connect to that totals at least 2tbs. 9+ years worth of collection. If I can't find something I like there, it doesn't exist.

I think at least 95% of todays porn surfers, will keep on surfing for new stuff.

If I look at myself as surfer I get bored pretty quick after seeing the same movie a few times, and with todays high speed internet and tube sites, there is no need to download everything and keep it on your HD.

I have to agree with steve in some respect. I have not payed for a site in over 8 years. Then, the only site I would pay for would be to check if they had my content used illegally. I have around 500 gig of porn saved from surfing over the years and other than my time all of it has been gotten free. If I need a quick fix i can alway turn to it. I'm still always on the lookout for something truly new and amazing, but the picking are really slim. Even so, I still look for new stuff.
