Dumpster Divers On Trash Day - Recycling

Anyone else......Every trash day there are people walking the street digging through Trash bins taking the aluminum cans. We might as well just throw the recyclables out on the street fuck the trash can.

What's funny is its totally legal....One mans Trash is another mans treasure.

whats the problem? If someone wants to spend the time and energy collecting collecting cans, more power to them

When I was a teen, around 15 years ago, we would go dumpster diving for computer equipment. You could find some nice stuff, Sun machines, etc.

That's a daily occurance where I'm at.

I can put something out at the sidewalk and within an hour someone will have grabbed it.

I one time put out an old water heater and clothes dryer. Some guy and his wife had them both loaded into his VW Jetta. Water heater in the back seat with both doors open and the dryer hanging out the trunk.

My buddy has a neighbor who drives around in a truck all day collecting junk and taking it somewhere to get paid.

It is illegal in some states and cities..

I was in court in Burbank, CA and this guy got caught going through trash cans on the street taking out recyclables, turns out the city makes alot of money seperating and recycling trash so its illegal..

He was fined $250 for his first offense, the second offense would be between $500 - $1000...

hardly makes it worth going through the trash to steal some cans if you're caught after that..

I believe the supreme court has ruled that anything you put at the curb to discard is fair game.

Trespassing to hit the corporate dumpster on the other hand, is still trespassing. In my state they have to tell you to leave first, and if you come back then you can be cited.

They should just get a garbage truck and pickup all the recycleables

What's really fucked up is my town charges us to take the trash, drives it down the street to the dump, and takes out the recycling. They charge me money to take it from me and then sell it to make more money? Fuck that.

We put our cans and plastic into trash bins we bought and when they are all filled up we take them to be recycled. Last month we made $40, which we gave to our daughter who helped us.
