hiding wordpress's identity?
basically wondering if there is an easy fix for hiding the fact that you're running wordpress. rename the directories and such. making /wp-admin/ and so on, something entirely different and unnoticeable? so someone would have to say, visit yourdomain.com/goatcheese/ to reach the administrative panel? anything to cover all the tracks that make it obvious you're running wp....

It's impossible, plugins like this will find them all
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/11899 And all the biggest blogs on the net use WP anyways, but any seasoned veteran can tell WP just by looking at the site, url structures etc |
its possible, but a lot of hacking would need to be done, and a waste of time

If you're sick of WordPress getting hacked - take a week and learn TextPattern. You'll be glad you did. |
What is your reasoning for wanting to hide it? Besides the WP detector add on...there are grease monkey scripts that will tell you the version of that as well as the type of analytics it is using.

wp-admin can be masked
use a plug that gives you the option to theme your admin page Wordpress.org I used it also, but i dished it cause it creates in your PAGE structure a extra page called login, and this i didnt liked |
uh will they recode WP, this shit is going to my hack nerves

It's pretty simple to rename wp-admin and maybe a couple of other
major directories so that the spiders that try random sites don't find you. I agree with the other posters that hiding it well, so that people visiting your site couldn't tell it was Wordpress, would be extremely difficult and not worth the time. If the purpose is security, Wordpress has recently come out with a very significant security update which eliminates several major classes of possible hacks. Not just specific known issues are taken care of, but whole large classes of possible attacks. Keeping up to date and possibly restricting admin access by IP address are probably better uses of time. |
ive been running wordpress since its came out and ive never been hacked before, its common sense really.
