Your Tax Dollars At Work

Seriously is there any doubt at all that the scum in congress needs to be voted out:

don't forget- pelosi treats the military as her own private air force

Relax, do what we do in Aus, just vote a new bunch in every couple of terms and hope they take a while to figure out how everything works and dont fuck things up too much.

They will always do what they wan't to do regardless of what the people feel, you have no influence or power so best not to worry about it and just get on with life. Things get too bad, have a revolution lose 10-30% of the population and start again. :)

She's 3rd in succession and entitled -- same as Hasert (R) was.
After 9/11 they changed the protocol on the Speaker of the House travel.
Just like Cheney is getting extra secret service protection benefits that the V.P. normally would not receive.

To be clear those beyond Pelosi & Reid aren't in power and should be spending all that damned time overseas.

you obviously are not knowledgeable about what's going on, i'll summarize-

the military requested she stop requesting all the travel and the hard push from her staff for the g5.

regardless of entitlement, she's overstepped her boundary of fair usage.

That is not what the article says at all -- you are making that statement up to try to give a false impression of both the process AND the requests.

-- here are the highlights

Quote:

Congress plans to spend $550 million to buy eight jets, a substantial upgrade to the fleet used by federal officials at a time when lawmakers have criticized the use of corporate jets by companies receiving taxpayer funds.
...
Quote:

The congressional shopping list goes beyond what the Air Force had initially requested as part of its annual appropriations. The Pentagon sought to buy one Gulfstream V and one business-class equivalent of a Boeing 737 to replace aging planes. The Defense Department also asked to buy two additional 737s that were being leased.
Pentagon did not request the extra planes, the house did. House Appropriations Committee says the buy to incr. capacity and replace aging fleet. The planes are plush...usage has expanded since 1995 x10.

So clearly there is hypocricy and over usage by rank and file members, since dems took control in 2006(~?) the majority of that time was under R leadership and usage.

Key facts in the tail end of article...travel must be approved by committees,

Quote:

When there are too many requests for military planes, the speaker of the House or the Senate majority leader decides who gets to go. Two House employees work full time to organize overseas trips.
Pelosi is in charge of delegation the process for ALL members of the house -- and the tone and examples that were used in the piece were Republicans traveling, not dems.

If and when cutbacks are made, which I agree they should be, it's not going to be the house and senate leadership on the sidelines. Your point, was to make it seem like it was Pelosi alone who was abusing the system -- it is clear that is not what the piece was about.

Come to your own conclusions about that source and how "non-partisan" they are...but you can take them at face value if you want :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

Here's fact check's take (truly non-partisan)
http://wire.factcheck.org/2009/03/23/plane-false/

Key quotes:
Quote:

We wrote that it had become standard practice after September 11 for the speaker of the House to have access to a military jet for shuttles back to his or her home district for security reasons ? the speaker is No. 2 in the line of presidential succession, and the previous speaker, Republican Dennis Hastert, used a military jet, too.
Quote:

"For further discussion of the discrepancy between Judicial Watch?s implications and the actual documents the group provides, see this March 11 report from ABC News. The ABC reporters also compared air travel requests by Pelosi with those of Hastert and found that ?Pelosi made the equivalent of 20 round-trips between Washington (Andrews Air Force Base) and San Francisco. That?s an average of less than one round-trip per month. In contrast, former Speaker Hastert traveled home to his Illinois district virtually every weekend and, his former aides tell ABC News, he would almost always travel on military aircraft.? "

I wonder if the GM,Ford,Dodge CEO's are planning on having a sit down with them about this.. Looks like the pot is calling the kettle black in this case.

WTF can't they just fly on a normal airliner..

Definitely they should all limit travel.

Pelosi, though, is a special case given the changes in protocol.

These guys seem to love :angrysoap about Pelsoi, but are wrong time after time. I don't agree with a lot of her ideas and execution, but she's smart and tough and doesn't whinge like Clinton and Palin in the face of unrelenting criticism.

dyna mo 08-07-2009 04:25 PM

i stand corrected on pelosi's travel, thanks for the info.

:thumbsup It's all good -- it is easy to be fooled. Both liberal and conservative "watch organizations" set themselves up as though they are non-partisan, they are then quoted by "reputable" news organizations (or politicians) as though they are giving unbiased analysis.

It's like in casino -- it's all designed to push you to one side or the other and take your money. I find it funny though, that people are so rabid about attacking Pelosi, when most of the time she's fucking spot on.

At least you have the balls to admit you were misled, and it happens to ALL of us, myself included.:upsidedow

they have great health care coverage

dyna mo 08-07-2009 04:33 PM

well, i know pelosi, her daughter and my ex-wife went to law school together and we hung out at their napa valley ranch quite a few times.

this was 95-97, many of us realized then she was out of her mind delusional.

What politician isn't full of themselves? Newt shut down gov't b/c of the "disrespect" he got on Air Force One...right around that same period of time.

cykoe6 08-07-2009 04:44 PM

These are the same politicians who want to tax the carbon emissions of the rest of us while they tool around in private jets. It just goes to prove what a manufactured scam this whole "climate change" carbon tax madness is. Pelosi represents everything that is wrong with our current system. She is a disgrace.

So here is the million dollar question...

If you were in office and had a choice of flying commercial or private, which would you choose?

I'd pick private!

Depends on how high up I was. Speaker of the House is an important position 2nd in line to the presidency, setting the agenda for the House which is hard charging political faire.

If I was an average joe, probably not, but then again you got guys like Ron Paul who although they "run on principle" pay their family members shitloads to do basic jobs in their campaign. :2 cents:

So... why not be a hypocrite like the rest haha?

I guess they should be in planes form 1903 or something. specificically when are they allowed to upgrade airplanes or should they fly in them until they fall apart in flight? I'm currious as to your answer.

1903? What the fuck are you talking about?

Why don't you at least read the article before you run your mouth smart ass...

Geoff Morrell, the Pentagon press secretary, said the Department of Defense didn't request the additional planes and doesn't need them. "We ask for what we need and only what we need," he told reporters Wednesday. "We've always frowned upon earmarks and additives that are above and beyond what we ask for."
