.info domains

I don't play the domain name game so someone fill me in on .info doman names. Rumor awhile ago was that they wouldn't get good SE listings, true?

Are there pros and cons to domain name extentions? What are they?

info is cheap! :D

Cyber Fucker 08-08-2009 06:36 AM

Not true, I think that domains with .info extension are as well valuable as .net or .org though .com are still the best option.

I guess that was hat I was thinking, kind of use .info as a last resort.

I never want to lose one surfer to mistyping the extension. All of our domains (thousands) are .coms except for one .nu registered in the 90's.

Yep, it's always better to go with *.com domains, but if you are short of money *.info is also fine. I have several of them. Work pretty well.

.info = fail

.com all the way, even if you need to use a 3 word .com domain name, I never met anyone who ever typed in .info

.com, .net .org don't bother with anything else.

best extension for a huge interlinked blog network using rss feeds or scraped content hands down.

u-Bob 08-08-2009 12:11 PM

got plenty of them... bringing in good money...

onwebcam 08-08-2009 01:26 PM

Made a lot of money on them over the years. My biggest ROI to date was from a .info "info" is a recognizable term in in pretty much any language/country. Have never had any SEO issues with them. In fact I'd say they do better in search with info attached after all this is the "info"rmation superhighway.

Juicy D. Links 08-08-2009 01:31 PM

.info has a bad rep since it was used a lot for MFA and email spam lps. That said, I am not sure if there's an SE algo penalty for that extension.

goldfish 08-10-2009 08:02 AM

I have spent some time reading and as far as a penalty for .info goes it is unclear, and mostly just a lot of speculation.

;) Its impressive though.

Agent 488 08-10-2009 08:29 AM

why bother wasting time on a project that "might" be fucked from the start due to a penalty? why risk it? just grab an alternate .com.

tranza 08-10-2009 10:12 AM

I don't think .info sites sounds good... Why don't you get .net?

DaddyHalbucks 08-10-2009 11:33 AM

Here's all you need to know about domain extensions: DOTCOM is King.

goldfish 08-10-2009 11:37 AM

I normally do stick with .coms & .nets but they are bought mostly for development. .info I was thinking of picking up a few key names because the .com and .net are getting so hard to get with out it being thisistheonlydamndomainicouldfind.com long
