Would you ditch firefox for Google Chrome?

Although Google recently released a faster version of Chrome and improved tab features http://www.webmasterworld.com/redire...g/chrome/beta/ I wonder if it can ever match Firefox' headstart. I mean, firefox just has such a huge lead with plugins/add ons. What would it take for you to ditch FF for Google?

BSleazy 08-08-2009 12:24 PM

I can't use it because there's no Home button as far as I can see.

BSleazy 08-08-2009 12:26 PM

Well shit I just found that u have to turn that option on in the settings.

woj 08-08-2009 12:31 PM

if chrome started to support FF's plugins, I would consider switching :thumbsup

I have grown so dependent on my Firefox plugins, so that would definitely be the only way for me, too...

Twig 08-08-2009 12:35 PM

No possible chance of me leaving without plugins, and only if Chrome has the same ones as FireFox.
Even then I might not leave because I'm such a fanboy. seriously.

Yngwie 08-08-2009 12:38 PM

Only if my FF plugins would work on Chrome. If not, than nope.

You said it all right there. If Chrome had all the add-ons that FF had. I would ditch it in a second (if it didnt slow Chrome down). I use chrome for browsing / boards and such. I only use Firefox for working. It has better download setup. It also has a ton of great add-ons for webmasters.

Chrome is so much fucking faster it is not even funny. Not sure if they had the same addons and such if it would slow down.

natkejs 08-08-2009 12:42 PM

I switched already... only used the FireBug plugin in FF so unless I'm coding javascript there is no reason for me to use that browser. The FF bugs lately has been pissing me off too much.

of course it would slow down, but nobody really knows exactly how much.

cykoe6 08-08-2009 01:02 PM

Nothing could make me switch to chrome. I have too much dependence on Google already.

Jet - BANNED FOR LIFE 08-08-2009 01:04 PM

Chrome doesn't even support their own fucking Google Toolbar.

:2 cents:

stickyfingerz 08-08-2009 01:06 PM

Chrome is ridiculously fast as compared to FF. And new version of FF has crashed once a day or so since I upgraded. There IS a home button just enable it. I wish it could use some of the ff plugins as well, but can deal with opening ff if I need to do something requiring one of its plugins. Chrome is setup to eventually allow plugins. Checking to see if I have the newest version since I didn't know they did another upgrade woot!

stickyfingerz 08-08-2009 01:08 PM

Just upgraded to the beta seamlessly and fast as shit. Chrome is a beautiful browser and I've used them all. :thumbsup

Faster than FF? Which functions are faster? Page rendering? Script execution?

GrouchyAdmin 08-08-2009 01:37 PM

All it is is another shitty wrapper to WebKit. I have that natively, it's called Konqueror.

Loads faster from initial startup, loads and renders pages faster. Everything. Install it, and use it for a few days, then try opening FF and surfing you'll notice it right off.

stickyfingerz 08-08-2009 01:43 PM

http://scalarmotion.wordpress.com/20...hrome-vs-ie-8/ Review from last year, and thats after a lot of Chrome updates. Looking for a newer review.

Sounds pretty cool. I'll check it out again.

Every review I've found so far shows Chrome kicking FF and IE's ass in speed. :2 cents:

notime 08-08-2009 01:51 PM

Chrome is nice for webmail and FF crashes every hour or so for no reason the last week after being stable for at least 1 year in a row.

Nautilus 08-08-2009 01:55 PM

I'm using Opera and not going to switch anytime soon.

What do you like the most about Opera?

u-Bob 08-08-2009 01:57 PM

1. I really need my plugins/extensions.
2. I don't trust google.

DefaultMan 08-08-2009 02:01 PM

I've already ditched Firefox for Chrome and I haven't looked back

True, I don't see much underlying functionality difference. Just as it should, it does blast through JavaScript/AJAX pages. I don't see myself abandoning FF anytime soon though.

I also don't see myself ever embracing a Google OS either.

So it's all win for Google? None of the risks, all of the benefits? :Oh crap

brassmonkey 08-08-2009 02:15 PM

never!!!

It's basically the same damn thing without the obnoxiousness of Qt - but uses Java with propietary calls to Windows instead. I'm not really a fan. It works/acts like everything else WebKit. Safari/Windows isn't far off.

digifan 08-08-2009 02:32 PM

no way.....

Neat and very pleasant layout, the most conveniently organized common browsing features. I'm still using FF when I need more browser windows or some special plugins for work.

I really like what they've done to the address field (Omnibar) ... the search features and as you type suggestions in the latest beta are awesome!

You start typing in Eiffel... and it will suggest the wikipedia article or official page of the Eiffel Tower. You start typing youtube (after visiting it once) and it will let you press TAB to switch to youtube search instead of just going there and, it will use the native search of youtube to perform it.

This works with any site you've visited in the past that has a search feature.

I haven't tried the native webkit but I really do like some of the new features in Google Chrome, I use them all the time.

I'm on a Mac also, and I'm not experiencing any issues with FF.

I wouldn't switch to chrome unless they had similar plugins, I have three or four that I use every day.

bns666 08-08-2009 05:46 PM

i like chrome almost even better than firefox, but firefox has all of my passwords so i am too lazy to do the switch :)

Google Chrome can import them ;)

tiger 08-08-2009 07:37 PM

Chrome is way faster but no way I would switch FF is much better.

Chrome is similar to how FF was years ago when I tried switching from IE.

I used to think that about ff till I did a total switch over and now can't go back to ff except for things that are a necessity lol

Miguel T 08-08-2009 09:49 PM

I just did it, and I can't complain!

docputer 08-08-2009 10:46 PM

I really have to have roboform. I am using chrome for some things but not for work

munki 08-08-2009 10:49 PM

Netscape ftw...

andrew1009 08-08-2009 11:54 PM

I've been using Chrome all year. It's awesome :thumbsup

Lorna Morgan 08-09-2009 12:12 AM

I started with Chrome, but moved back to FF in the last 3 weeks.

Chrome didn't seem that stable, and couldn't work with every site.

Still use every browser to check sites updates though ...

PornMD 08-09-2009 12:19 AM

I don't give a shit about bells and whistles. I care about time - conserving as much as possible, and Chrome being so much fucking faster, it's no contest.

VeriSexy 08-09-2009 12:32 AM

I'm sticking to firefox

quantum-x 08-09-2009 01:56 AM

Already changed.
Firefox sucks.

iSpyCams 08-09-2009 04:26 AM

I use them all and a few others but FF is my main browser, mostly because of xmarks since I use so many different PC's and OS's during the course of a normal work week, I try to do all my heavy work like emailing and banking and such in a browser and I need the bookmark syncing. Also the session manager is real important to me since I generally have several dozen tabs open at once and if something crashes or freezes I need to restore them or there's no way I will be able to remember which pages I was working on and be able to find them again without losing alot of time.
