Just installed Windows 7 and..

I'm really impressed. I was very nervous about ditching XP but this is really a great OS.

I couldn't believe how easy the install was. Literally a few clicks and walk away from the computer for a while, came back and just had to setup the user account and its done. It even recognized my raid drive without any drivers being installed.

Seems as fast as XP and faster for some tasks and now I get to finally use all my RAM since its 64 bit. Only bad part is reinstalling all your programs but in the end it looks like it is going to be worth the effort.

Screenshots or it never happened.

as we started rolling out new computers to our design team these past two months, we started rolling out windows 7.

gotta say, overall, I like it better then XP and it may be the best Windows release yet.

i'm a mac person myself, but there is no doubt that windows 7 is getting alot of things wrong with vista right.

Killswitch - BANNED FOR LIFE 08-09-2009 05:32 PM

Yeah, I wanna upgrade from XP to it, but I don't really feel like it shutting down on me every 2 hours starting in March.

True but I will buy a copy way before then anyway.

what kind of price are they going to be charging for it? (especially if you bought an xp laptop and don't necessarily have the upgradeable license?)

munki 08-09-2009 05:47 PM

Win 7 is thexy... I've been using it on all of my design and render whores, and the speed improvements over Vista have been mind blowing (even compared 64 to 64, not just 32 to 64). Usability was greatly improved for both advanced and novice users. All in all I'm hard pressed to find anything to complain about with the setup, outside of having to force load vista 32 drivers for my mpg accelerator, which I'm sure will be corrected in the coming months.

Tapaz 08-09-2009 05:50 PM

when u buy a copy then you can keep on using the system you have already installed or you have to reinstall?

TheSenator 08-09-2009 06:05 PM

Can't I just upgrade without a clean install?

Tapaz 08-09-2009 06:16 PM

I think u ve to reinstall ...

RandomNinja 08-09-2009 07:18 PM

I've been running the RTM for a week or so now and it's been amazing so far! Not one single problem yet, and I'm really liking the new taskbar.

Danny B 08-09-2009 07:45 PM

I've been playing with it all week and have not yet found anything to complain about.
It's fast, clean and the new task bar is the shiznit!

mynameisjim 08-09-2009 07:51 PM

Word all around is that Microsoft delivered on Windows 7. Best OS yet.

I have yet to hear one bad thing about it.

chris_joseph 08-09-2009 07:53 PM

ahoy 08-09-2009 09:09 PM

Yeah, been using Win7 myself on my new machine and so far everything is great. Especially with the SSD drive :thumbsup

One problem I was having though was with the sleep mode, anyone else experience problems with it?

If you are running XP you have to either clean install or install on a separate partition.

I backed up all my stuff and just did a clean install. Have been reading reviews for a long time, haven't seen hardly any complaints. So far nothing but rave reviews on 7.

TheSenator 08-09-2009 11:50 PM

from Windows 7 Upgrade Adviser Beta....
You can do an in-place upgrade to 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium or Ultimate. If you choose to upgrade to a different edition you will need to perform a clean installation. Go online to see detailed instructions about how to upgrade.

Mr. Billy 08-10-2009 12:17 AM

I hope it gives you PC folks some stability and a performance boost. Being on a MAC I really value not having to constantly reformat and run scans etc. I helped a friend with her PC some time ago, and I just didn't have the patience for all the problems it had.

VeriSexy 08-10-2009 12:36 AM

Will be upgrading once the final is out

bbobby86 08-10-2009 12:58 AM

I had Vista Ultimate on this computer and just did a reinstall over top, it saved the Vista Operating files as windows.old.

I've only been back to it to grab my files and then delete Vista.

I haven't heard of one person who installed it who wasn't inpressed.

Killswitch, the operating system blows what you are using away, not upgrading because you will have to legitimately buy it is stupid. Do you only use programs you can download for free or ripped copies?

Seriously, no fucking brainer. If you run windows, atleast try it. A nominal fee should have little to do with it if you spend any amount of time on the computer.

The Duck 08-10-2009 04:14 AM

When is it due for release?

Dirty Lord 08-10-2009 04:18 AM

win7 > ALL

Great Shooter 08-10-2009 07:26 AM

I am runing Vista Ultimate 64 on a i-7 proc with 12 gigs of RAM , no problems yet and it is fast as hell !

but i have heard that Windows 7 is much better.

hhmm

seeandsee 08-10-2009 07:29 AM

Not being a smartass, but why in the world would you NOT want to clean install any windows version?!

quantum-x 08-10-2009 07:46 AM

Windows 7 rocks.
