I once fired an employee for similar reasons.

She called in sick, and said that she wouldn't be able to come to work for 3 weeks, because of medical reasons.

After looking up her profile on Orkut (much more spread here in Brazil than Facebook), I noticed that she was partying everyday with friends, and telling everybody how she fooled her employees.

Needless to say that I fired her on spot when I read those messages.

I've read about a lot of these cases before. As long as it is a public profile, or something you were granted access for, there's no grounds for a lawsuit.

First of all, where I'm from, if this boss didn't have prior documentation of her being a poor employee, dismissing her for saying ANYTHING that ISN'T criminal isn't just cause for dismissal. If she's admitting to something criminal, absolutely. EVEN if she's admitting that she doesn't DO her job on there, he would have to have proof of it at work AND documentation.

Second and more important, and let me preface this by saying that I HATE lawyers, for an employer to PUBLICLY fire an employee is both unprofessional and irresponsible. Up here, a lawyer would be all over it so fast it wouldn't be funny. The reason? "Emotional distress". The EMPLOYER would probably be the one in the end looking for work, while the employee would get a nice settlement.

You might consider just reading before you start going off.

If you sign a contract with a 6 month probationary period, you can pretty much be fired for anything during those months. The boss doesn't even need a reason.

Bah, should waited for her to come in and sit down, and right when she's about to get on the computer or whatever, go up to her and say "alright, pack your shit and get the fuck out!" Okay maybe in dreams (especially if you live in Cali) but wouldn't you just love to do that? :)
