Anyone have a GT-R?

I had one pass me on i95 the other night, just cruising at about 80. I was in my Jeep with 3 other people so there was no way I was catching him but that thing looked gorgeous. Girlfriends brother works at a high end dealership around here and has them quite often...They're looking pretty tempting and I think I might go test drive the next one they get in. :winkwink:

Man....I really want to test drive it too. I have a 350Z now, and just bought my wife a Rogue. The whole time we were at the dealership I had to sit next to a bad ass GT-R. I asked the sales guy if I could test drive it.....he said that you have to buy it. No test drive. Seriously. Then I asked if he's ever had a ride in one...and he said one time. The guy stomped on the gas pedal and he said it was like an airplane taking off. Crazy.

Hey if you've got $90k lying around more power to ya, brother.

There's a certain program owner who rarely posts who has one as a daily driver. It's a very cool car, not too loud, makes that turbo snarl at the right RPM...

That's exactly what I hear about it. Girlfriends brother drove it and said it was definitely one of the fastest cars he has driven. They've got Porches, Ferraris, Vipers and all kinda shit.

life goes fast on GFY - just recently you needed a job to pay for your house and this week you want to buy a GT-R? Amazing :winkwink:

I *want* to buy one...Doesn't mean I will.

It wouldn't be tomorrow, or maybe next month. GT-R's aren't civics and come around every other day. I'd be saving for quite some time before I go and purchase a 70k car. :1orglaugh But thanks for your concern :)

Dream I say, dream. I would be saving for a bit before I go and do that, plus my trade in and selling off all of my aftermarket jeep parts and some sites in the process. :winkwink:

The car is nasty!

buyandsell 08-12-2009 08:44 AM

great car but I think the transmnission maybe weak something to look into its custom made for each car or something crazy and costs a ton to replace + if you use the launch control etc you void your warranty

pentae 08-12-2009 08:50 AM

I used to own an r32 GTR here in Australia, and the transmission was 15 years old and was a 300hp atw daily driver.. (Some guys ran up to 1000hp on the stock tranny) I think Nissan have a bit of experience with transmissions on the GTRs. :1orglaugh

dyna mo 08-12-2009 08:51 AM

it's true about the trans. i believe it's been fixed since though.

I've never seen one for $70k.

As soon as they came out people were flipping them for 85 and exotic dealerships were getting 87, 90 on the west coast.

BestXXXPorn 08-12-2009 09:07 AM

Love this car. Fell in love with GTRs when I lived in Japan. I've driven a friend's but don't own one myself. Plan to buy one when I can though. Faster than a 911 Turbo at a drastically lower price and I just love the Japanese almost muscle look to it. Beefy car with some serious power!

that issue is fixed, launch control which is a stock feature does NOT void your warantee

Don't they call it Godzilla or something in Japan?

Manowar 08-12-2009 09:23 AM

they go through clutches and tyres faster than any car i've ever seen

nissan charge you porsche prices for servicing

other than that, they go like a rocket and are a very nice car

justinsain 08-12-2009 09:36 AM

Here's a cool site for some GT-R stuff. Be sure to check out the customer's rides.

they are automatic, no clutches unless your talking about internal clutch packs in the transmission. Every other year SKYLINE has come in manual, this is not a skyline its a GTR.

Spudstr 08-12-2009 10:02 AM

I have a friend who owns one. Its ungodly fast and stomps my m3 :(

I've just never seen one around here for that price.

Fail - it's actually got a manual paddle shift. So it has no clutch PEDAL.

But in fact, it has not one, but two actual clutches.

Choopa Phil 08-12-2009 10:15 AM

its an automatic with paddle shifters, it uses different technology than standard autos with use a torque converter. If im not mistaken dont the only M3's which use SMG have a clutch too. i guess u can all it a hybrid manual for arguements sake but the car will shift automatically in "a" mode and manually in "m" mode. just like any other sports type trans...its auto no matter how u slice it in my book. if it doesnt have 3 pedals your not driving a TRUE sports car IMO. It takes all the fun out of driving when a computer does all the work. Also those GTRs posted on EBAY are the versions with the launch control issues they can be fixed on this year however, these issues are fixed with the 2010 models.

From what my friend told me if you do more than x launches with launch control it will void your warranty. :2 cents: As ironic as that is.

vettes will do twin turbos as well :) I've spent about 100K miles driving in the moutains. in those miles I've NEVER seen a bmw doing anything except creep along. even smoked a BMW in the mountains with my caddilac de ville. I have no idea what a g34 is BTW

Choopa Phil 08-12-2009 12:45 PM

sorry meant to say G35, heh. I know vettes can do TT, Lingenfelter FTW! honestly Bimmers are over prices machines for the performance u get its not worth the money at all. i put probably 15-20k into my G and hang with z06's, that is of course until we hit the twisties...then im goneeee =D

Look dude, you're dead wrong.

An automatic is hydraulic with a torque converter; anything with a friction clutch, no matter how you move the clutch, is a manual.

As far as having a clutch pedal, who gives a shit, that's personal preference. I'm sure the guys who drive everything from E-gear Lambos to F1 cars would be very sad to learn they aren't driving true sports cars.

One of the coolest cars ever imho, especially when you compare price with power and quality.

Awesome performance, too bad it's one of the ugliest cars in the history of motor vehicles.

I don't care how much cheaper it is than supercars, it will always fail parked next to them.

I mean, just look at it
