I saved my pets life today

One of my pet goldfish was floating when I went to feed them. On it's side and clearly I thought it was dead.

It was at this time that I decided to try and revive my goldfish.

Changed the water... and pushed my little fish for about 2 hours to get water to go through the little guy again.

I am happy to report that although still slow... he is no longer floating on his side and swimming like teencat would walk.

It is a start...

My dad did that once, He pulled the fish out and used a straw and a toothpick to blow air in to his gills then put it back in clean water.

Really????? You have to PUSH the fish???? Why? That I never heard of and could have used it so many times back when I had goldfish.

I hope he does ok, but it may come back. I had one I tried to save like that but he ended up swimming upside down and rubbing across the gravel and being a bloody mess. Had to put him down with ice. It was sad. :( I had him I think 4 years. Still have his buddy left he is close to 6. They are small koi though so still kind of goldfish I guess.

Yeah... the clean water I think had to run through the gills. What happened was my compressor for my A/C broke and the heat wave just came. I left my house for a few days and the water got too warm. I saw him floating on his side... he is back to normal now.

Bowl of water and add ice till they pass. Researched it before I did it and seemed like most humane way. Other way is like butchers knife and cut the head off, but I just couldn't do that to him. I had him for 4 years and he would come up to the glass and look at me when he was hungry and stuff. Flushing isn't good before they are fully dead. They can live down there for awhile.

I did not know you could revive an f'n fish. Learn something new everyday...

I don't think he's going to make it... turning colors and floating. I actually think my other goldfish ate his fins the first time around preventing him from swimming properly...

don't know...

bastard fish

There is a gland or something that can get plugged up and ruins their balance. I forget what it is now though, but not a whole lot you can do once that happens Im afraid.

It sounds like your goldfish may have swim bladder disease. I hope he makes it but unfortunately he's probably too far gone. Best of luck.

Ahh ya that is it, couldn't think of it.

ruth 08-16-2009 10:22 AM

How much do you feed your goldfish? This kind of problem can be brought on by overfeeding.

MandyBlake 08-16-2009 02:28 PM

awww! good for you!
