An air traffic controller at Teterboro Airport was yakking on the phone with his girlfriend, and his supervisor wasn't in the control tower when the crash took place, the Federal Aviation Administration reported.

Not blaming the guy personally, but he is getting some shit for being on the phone while this happened. :error

"While the FAA said it did not appear that they had anything to do with the disaster, they were removed from duty immediately and the feds have begun disciplinary proceedings."

Thats how we behave these days. Nothing to do with it, so bend over for your spankings.. Pretty stupid, but there you have it.

The video of it makes it clear that the plane was climbing slightly, and the helicopter was as well. It was a low wing plane, nobody could have seen the copter down there coming right up to their path.. whamo. Thats why they use high-wing planes for search and rescue: you can see downwards.

Accidents happen, we dont need to punish someone just for the hell of it. They're just afraid the public will be mean to them if they dont spank someone I guess.

Well they did find that neither he nor his boss were doing their jobs so they were reprimanded. Which they should be. They said that they didn't cause the crash but weren't doing their jobs.

I don't know about you but I want the air traffic controller to be working and not on the phone talking to his girlfriend. I know every place I have worked at personal calls were only to be made on personal time...like breaks away from work.

However, wasn't the literal comment about this that it was under the radar? I mean I understand if someone's radio was screaming out to them and they were on the phone, but for petes sake at that altitude they weren't even a blip were they? I'm trying to get at the question if they even could POSSIBLY have done anything if they were the absolute perfect model employee.
