Mainstream Business

Is there a board for mainstream online business that is similar to what GFY is for the adult business?

What are the best resources to learn more about the mainstream business?

What are the best mainstream ?sponsors??

I?ve been working in adult for over 11 years and never did anything in mainstream, now I am planning to take a peak.

The mainstream market is vast. The problem with mainstream forums is that it's trafficked by a lot of newbs... then again that's quite similar to GFY these days.

You can check out sitepoint forums or digitalpoint.

Products to market? Anything you'll find on TV, in a magazine or any other mainstream source. The big two affiliate program aggregators are linkshare and commission junction.

X37375787 08-16-2009 12:03 AM

Funny you mention dabbling in mainstream.

I wouldn't know what to fucking do in adult these days. At all. It's been too long. Guess vaginas and cocks still sell somehow.

MovieMaster 08-16-2009 12:08 AM

to some degree I agree with equinox for those not on top of what works, you need need to stay on top of things even more so now... and if you have been away for a short time get up to speed fast before you just waste your time.

Thank you for the nice reply, I appreciate it

My experience with mainstream forums is that they are a waste of time mostly.

Figure out what you want to sell, check the competition, see what they do, explore what they lack, then fill that void. A million different ways to market in mainstream, tons of traffic and lots of niches that are still untapped by capable webmasters. Forget trying to sell the saturated markets, like ring tones, acai berries, weight loss, etc.

Actually that is my main problem right now, when I think of traffic I think of free hosted galleries, tgp's and mgp's (still LOL), free sites, rss feeds, blogs, hosted flv files etc

If you have the money to sit and wait for the returns in 18-24 months, Low budget movie making is a damn good option

you mean sell crappy content in the interim?

gwidomains 08-16-2009 08:03 AM

gfy has good bits of knowledge that can be applied to normal products.
programmings
seo
dating
---the largest best paying dating programs are from adult companies: AFF, fling etc.
you will see them all over "mainstream" sites, even facebook, pof, myspace and others.

digital point and site point are good starts on basic stuff but omg, there are some dumb asses.

The best "mainstream" boards cost $50-150/mo. b/c they focus heavily on PPC, SEO and other ad buys for traffic.

raven1083 08-16-2009 08:25 AM

digitalpoint is one of the best forum when it comes to mainstream thing.

I am starting to do a lot more with mainstream, and far and away wickedfire.com has been the best board for me, and I have learned a TON on there in a short period of time. Digital Point and Site Point are ok, but they are full of third world posters that clog the board up with nonsense making it very hard to find anything of substance. For me Digital Point is only good for finding outsourced workers cheap.

I also learned a lot from affiliatetips.com as far as what mainstream sponsors offer. I can tell you from a lot of what I have been reading stay far away from commissionjunction.com as they are huge but I have heard everything from ridiculous shaving of clicks to them outright not paying people. Hope that helps...

Don't go anywhere near DigitalPoint, it's filled with 3rd world scammers

Equinox is the fuckin truth, woot woot! :pimp

Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life 08-16-2009 03:15 PM

digitalpoint - made of 3rd world fail and aids. hangout for clueless newbs, broke fucks, and dudes named muhammed. if you go there for anything other than cheap slave labor, you're a fucking retard.

warriorforum - fail with slightly less aids. if you go there for any reason other than pretending to be an im guru selling shitty informational products, you're probably just a clueless fucking idiot buying shitty informational products.

wickedfire - the owner is an irritating faggot, the place is jampacked with braindead irritating faggots. if you post there, you're probably an irritating faggot, yet this is still somehow the better of the wh mainstream forums.

mainstream forums make gfy look like a mensa gathering...

X37375787 08-16-2009 05:33 PM

I am pretty certain that the chap from Wicked Fire was once active on GFY, years ago. I remember talking to him right around the time WF went online.

DaddyHalbucks 08-16-2009 10:15 PM

DNForum has good info about domains and mainstream.

:)

webmasterchecks 08-16-2009 10:24 PM

forums.digitalpoint.com you can find some great information, there is a general chat area, but there are different forums about seo, keyword research, google, link building, marketing, etc and lots of great info in there.

sure, on all boards you are going to find people that add very little, but let me say if you stick to threads that have a large number of replies about a particular topic, you can get some great info from some experienced people

i stick to digitalpoint, and sometimes sitepoint, also there is a buy/sell forum with 600 people in there at a time and you can get low quality odd jobs done by indians for $2/hr

I have made money from DP, but be carefull on that forum there are a lot of idiots and scammers on it.
Toni you ever looked at doing text based games or an online rpg game similar to WOW. If you get the right kind of game/script they can bring in good money from the users.

Are SE's the main traffic source in mainstream or is there something else I am missing?

Directories, link exchanges, twitter...but I don't see the massive traffic for new and small sites?

Toni 08-18-2009 03:16 AM

Or am I spoiled by the adult business traffic numbers after that many years?

Yes, SE's bring in the most interested people of the "product" to a website. And because of that competition it's hard to reach the big dough.

Yeah it is interesting? PPC or general bulk mainstream traffic?

Also, what do they sell aside from acai, ringtones etc...

pornguy 08-19-2009 06:11 AM

Build your mainstream site.. If its just a onlinestore it may not survive. So think outside the box. Join cj.com they have the programs that you will need for most any business.

to everyone else, ppc is only a very small selection of the options you have for buying traffic. there's so so many options online and off to purchase traffic.

That's the problem .... WHAT IS THE BOX ??? lol .....

With porn you have TGP, Freesites, blogs - (as an affiliate anyway)

With mainstream you have ??? .... what is the box?

You can't do TGP, you can build blogs and freesites but if people aren't coming to see naked chicks then how do you build a site themed with a topic people are interested in that ALSO matches a product or service that SELLS and is profitable....??

Porn seems so simple.
