Do Sales Promos Work for Affiliates.

Is this normal, sponsors offer $100 - $150 deals on sign ups, limited time offer. Now when you change to that offer and miraculously you get NO sales then when the promo is over and you revert back to the normal sales program sales rock in as before the promo......done this on a few lately and no results....makes you go..mmmmm...anyone with the same results.

mmm makes sense, so us small fry are wasting our time expecting the bigger payout, best to stick to the small plan that works for us......

Seeing a sponsor do these $100 PPS promo days puts me right off promoting them. I'd rather see the money spent on making the site convert better.

PXN 08-16-2009 10:17 AM

Promo never works well for me.

Webmaster Advertising 08-16-2009 10:18 AM

This is interesting because next month we are going to be running a $30 per sale and rebill promotion for Condom Cash do you think that offering something like $30 per join and rebill on a revshare program rather than just raising our regular payout from 50% would work or are you guys talking only about trial joins from PPS not working well?

fatfoo 08-16-2009 10:18 AM

In theory sales promotions have to work. Otherwise they wouldn't do them right? It sucks when the promotions fail. I have no experience with it, though and no results.

If you are a small company than just keep your head down, work hard and don't get caught up in what other programs are doing. Offer promos to your best affiliates (if you can) but offering $100 pps promo days won't build up your program, probably just put you in debt.

Well said it just waist your money I would rather see it spent on content:2 cents:

high PPS offers like that should be the big red flag that they are up to something sneaky. they are either shaving your sales or doing fucked up pre-checked cross sales.

if a sponsor is doing well, why would they offer such ridiculous payouts on a $24.95 membership?

it's an act of desperation and usually a scam...stay far, far away!

Maybe because they CAN and DO make the joins retain?

In theory if they worked so well, then they would be done every month by every PPS program out there... it's a loss leader for most if not all programs and the value (so i'm told) is in the gaining of new traffic sources by new affiliates jumping on the big PPS bandwagon. You know a program isn't ready for a big PPS day, because they crash and burn on the day of the promo because they can't handle the traffic everyone and their dog is throwing at them. I've seen this happen numerous times, and then all the whiners hit the boards and cry about how all their traffic is going into a black hole.

Profitable for the program? Go figure that one out! :2 cents:

Forkbeard 08-16-2009 08:13 PM

I always ignore promos. They don't make economic sense, somebody is getting screwed, either me or my traffic.

I'd rather put the effort into my continuous program of traffic and site building, rather than scrambling around sending special traffic on special days.

i don't buy that for a second! so if a site offers a promo of $200 PPS, are you telling me that you believe members are staying at least 9 months? these days? i don't think so! that's what it would take in order for the sponsor to make a single $24.95!

nope, they offer these promos to attract noob webmasters hoping to steal their traffic then when they don't "convert" the sponsor blames it on the poor economy or shit traffic.

i've tried a few of those in the past and never made one penny off any of them. now i just promote honest sites that have been around for awhile and work hard at their site rather than running rip off promos.

ParlourCash Karl 08-16-2009 11:08 PM

Pretty interesting replies, seems we are not the only ones who have not had much luck promoting big promos from other companies, we definitely will be sticking to the rev share offers, even though it is normally a special with a good affiliate with who we have been making sales on a regular basis, just seems when we try and go for the special it does not work for us.

Our ParlourCash affiliate program only offers Rev share at 50%, we could never afford to offer $50 or $100 deals even with the great retention we have on our site.

Several times i happened to get those promo sales, but it's a very rare thing:)
