What am I doing wrong with my RSS feeds?

Here is what I am trying to do -

I never really use RSS feeds since I had do all of my blogs. However, I want to make feeds of my own blogs and then display them on some of my other blogs. So, become my own feed to the blogs I am too lazy to write for these days.

I installed feedwordpress onto the blog I want the feeds to display on. However, it isn't updating. Is it the wrong plugin, do the settings need to be something special compared to the defaults? I know the original blogs are posting but for some reason it isn't going over to the feed blog.

FeedWordPress sux. Use CyberSEO Suite only.

maybe your blog's feed is not valid... just a guess... i'm not sure that it creates problem...
you can check your feed at feedvalidator.org

Never really had a major problem with FeedWordpress, we have a load of sites running it with default settings. Can't think what the problem might be.

If the feeds aren't being pulled in correctly, try running each one through feedburner and using the output URL that feedburner gives you to import with.

Are their issues with using feeds with embedded videos? When I just ran the feed url through feedvalidator.org (thanks Mixxxture), I get this as an error:

#

line 27, column 0: content:encoded should not contain embed tag (2 occurrences) [help]

<embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" ...

Yes, the post uses an embedded video but should that be a problem?

1) FeedWordPress is very big and slow;
2) FeedWordPress can not syndicate feeds with tube-style FLV videos correctly;
3) FeedWordPress sometimes "forget" to include your affiliate code into the affiliate URL's;
4) FeedWordPress has no built-in synonymizer;
5) FeedWordPress has no ability to alter custom post headers and footers;
6) FeedWordPress can't hide GUID's on syndicated post, so Google will blacklist your splog sooner or later;
7) FeedWordPress is unable to syndicate RSS feeds with meta content (e.g.: http://www.kinkydollars.com/rss-beta...ogram=revshare);

...should I continue?

With FeedWordPress - YES. With CyberSEO Suite - NO.

If the RSS feed is built correctly then FeedWordpress has no issues with embedded videos.

Lots of RSS feeds however are compiled incorrectly.

Also, CyberSEO is encrypted, and I just dislike encrypted scripts.

NATS is also encrypted. Do you promote NATS programs?

I meant to be used on my own sites, a script is never 100% like you want it, I'd prefer to pay a little extra so I can customize it as I see fit.

Sarah_Jayne 08-17-2009 12:22 PM

It isn't an RSS feed built by a sponsor. It is just a feed of the posts from one of my blogs. The embedded video is of course from a sponsor. Is that coding messing with the feed I am creating?

closer 08-17-2009 01:20 PM

Sarah, try to loose the EMBED tag and only use the OBJECT tag

OMG... thanks for reminding me. I bought this thing from you and then never installed it.

I guess I will install it today :)

Continue? For me, you didn't even need to list the items that you did, I wasn't debating whether it was a good product or not :)

How are you solving the issue of duplicate content in the SE's if you are reproducing you feeds exactly?

Sarah_Jayne 08-17-2009 01:49 PM

I'm not really, I just wanted to see if I could do this on one blog and then take it from there. It doesn't really bother me that much for the blogs I am doing it between.

Okay, I will try that tomorrow when I have the energy to go in and tinker.

Maybe that information can help you. Not sure if it's the exact problem you're having or not.

Sarah, I've got to give Cyber the big thumbs up. I have bought two of his products for my RSS feeds - his prices are very reasonable and his after-sales support is just fantastic. If you buy CyberSEO Suite, I have no doubt all your problems will disappear. Not only is it a great product but Cyber will answer any questions you have in setting it up - for the price he charges for it, it's a no brainer - anyone using RSS feeds should get it! :thumbsup

I almost forgot I had asked this question. I think I gave up and moved onto another project but I will be going back and working on this one again shortly.
