google code or github?
which do you like better for hosting your projects?
|
you are working on some cool open source project?
|
I've never used either, but was curious:
Is hosting at google code / github just saving on bandwidth compared to having a cvs / svn / git repository on one's own server? Is it also because they both seem to already have the friendly front-ends rather than just access to the repository that you don't have to setup on your own; the "wiki", html pages to browse, etc? And Fris, since you're a WP dude, and if you don't mind me asking, do you manage a base install of WP and necessary modules from a repo? I don't use WP, but have been using Drupal and am looking at some sane way to have a base install, plus the most common modules I'd use under version control; at least to be able to grab a snapshot of what I need quickly, from a single source I can maintain CMS & module updates from. Would dig any advice, practices people follow. There's articles abound, but just wanted to ask here as well. |
I do have a baseball of wordpress with the base plugins and settings, permalinks etc That I like, and I use something called WP Cloner and WP Auto installer, which I can use together, can install 100+ blogs in under 10 mins.
But you can do this via svn. http://birdhouse.org/software/2008/04/wp-create/ http://birdhouse.org/software/2007/07/wp-mass-upgrade/ not sure if this helps |
