Florida 2008:

One index crime every 36 seconds
One violent crime every 4 minutes & 11 seconds

I'd love to see one of these done for Nevada.

FL has it's rough spots, but all in all I don't think it's that bad.

I was just talking to a realtor the other day, we both live off the same street in FL now and we both had lived in Washington state previously. I really miss living in Washington, and while there are areas of Florida I wouldn't set foot in, we both agreed we feel way safer in suburban FL than suburban WA.

Seems like a good destination for criminals.

tranza 08-19-2009 06:46 AM

That's bad!

Anyone realize how bad it is in New Orleans? I'm looking for a new city to live in and of course New Orleans had some appeal ... Numerous articles about the city mentioned the crazy crime rate ranking New Orleans as one of the most dangerous cities in the world.

Here is one putting New Orleans in the TOP 5 IN THE WORLD for murder.

I've been to places in Rio that scared me shitless. I've lived in Washington DC and know what a rough neighborhood is but New Orleans ... wow.

.

I love where I live in Northern California. I don't think we've ever had a murder here.

scuba steve 08-19-2009 09:17 AM

its like any other state with major cities...there's good spots and bad, just have to know how to avoid the bad

VeriSexy 08-20-2009 12:44 AM

NOLA is fucking scary, but totally worth it in my opinion...one of the funnest places on earth, good fucking people down there too. But sketchy as FUCK.

However it's inaccurate.

When you're doing anything wrong nowadays you often get charged with a slew of things. It's not uncommon to see people with 20 or 30 charges. They tack on anything they can possibly think of to charge you with. That all adds up to these wacky statistics. Sometimes I wonder if there's a job specifically for finding all the things that could apply or what.

I'm guessing the murder stat wouldn't be affected, unless they've figured out a way to levy multiple murder charges for a single death. Unlikely, but you never know. :) It would stand to reason though, as they claim that's every 7 hours versus minute and seconds for the others. Also I bet car crashes are "vehicular homicides" or "accidental homicides" or something.

I was looking as similar stats a lot these days and Flordia turns out to be very bad. Miami is on the 3rd place of overall crime in the USA in the group of big cities (500,000+).
