Hot Sauce Appreciation Thread

I love hot sauce on virtually any food (I had it on my tuna and spinach salad for lunch).

I bought some El Yucateco Habanero hot sauce, and this stuff is seriously hot. Only a few drops and whatever you are eating becomes very fiery!!!
http://www.hotnbottled.com/images/1116.jpg

Once you get into hot sauce, then food seems quite bland without it.

Post you favorites here :)

mikeyddddd 08-21-2009 09:43 AM

I like 'em all...
especially the head sweats

Nice, I grow my own organic habaneros and make my own hot sauce and salsas.

None of the store bought hot sauces can compare to good homemade stuff, nor is it as hot.

Nothing in a bottle compares to the fresh heat of a Habanero.

I am always being offered money for it, friends and family love all the stuff I make, however, I never accept money for it.

However, I am in the process of stepping up my operation but it takes so much to make such little amounts... its like making good wine. It takes time and then by the time you get a big jug of it, you dont wanna sell it ;)

This stuff is awesome. It's hot, but not over-the-top hot, and it has a sweet flavor I really like. Try it!

I grew a load on habanero peppers a couple of years ago, with the view to making some sauce, but the raccoons got to them. When I looked at where they had been planted -- every pepper had been destroyed with thousands of seeds strewn all over the place and the plants ripped to shreds. I could imagine the raccoon eating the first one (they were pretty ripe) and then getting hit by the burn and just going completely bat shit mental!!! It looked like a crime scene :(

Not a hot sauce, but a hot spice....love me some Tony's!!! :thumbsup

I've got a handful of jalapeno plants outside, which are fairly hot but not hot enough. Too much pepper taste IMO. Did use them in some home made salsa though!

I like any kind of pepper!!

yes growing things yourself actually takes a lot of work. I havent been able to grow things like watermelons, canteloupes etc... because of things getting to them.... but have had plenty of luck growing my own hot peppers. Right now I have quite a few of Habanero plants, and even some Louisiana Cayennes growing. Takes forever to turn them red/orange though, but love the taste.

I am much more involved in hot sauces than I post about though, growing up in new orleans ive been eating very hot stuff since I was born LOL its only natural that since I love it spicy and love to cook, i would end up doing my own hot sauces and salsas.

My red hot salsa base is to die for!

http://www.congratstothewinners.com/.../red-salsa.jpg

I give bottles of it away and try to keep enough to last me more than 1 night LOL between my wife and I it never lasts long and I make it regularly...

I really enjoy just hearing people tell me how good it tastes, so its rewarding and tasty.
:thumbsup

I make my own, it's basically a TON of spices and ground beef boiled down to some hot greasy goodness.

I've had people want to buy my shit too.

i just discoverd Ghost Chilies and I got to tell you they are kick ass. I am a big pepper freak and the hotter the better. I grown my own peppers and make my own salsa (Smiley knows the burn from it) and I am looking forward to growing even more chilies next year since i have recently expanded my growing area. Ghost Chilies will be a must next year for growing sine they go for $40 a pound!!

tiger 08-21-2009 10:39 AM

Tapatio is damn good for most stuff. No wear near some of this liquid fire you guys are eating but it's good.

SykkBoy 08-21-2009 12:30 PM

I like sweet with my spice, so make my own habanero-apricot and habanero-peach-mango sauce....

I also love serranos, my favorite chilis....I like to blacken them then blend them with tomatillos, garlic and lime juice...

I'm a huge chili head and I like it HOT. Have you been to the hot sauce store on Danforth (The Fifth Taste I think it's called)? They let you sample anything you want. It's awesome!

My new favorite is Blair's Pure Death. The flavour is the freshest and tasiest I've ever had. I just wish it was a little hotter. It's made with Naga Jalokia but it's watered down with Habaneros. I was scared to try it, but it's actually very mild. The flavour is almost like fresh tomato salsa, but it only has four ingredients: Orange Habaneros, Naga Jolokia, Vinegar and Baked Hawaiian Red Salt. The colour is gorgeous, super bright orange.

If you like chipotle, then you have to try Hula Girl. It's won tons of awards:

dready 08-21-2009 03:44 PM

While the flavour is not the best, when I want pure heat, I drop the bomb:

Da' Bomb Beyond Insanity! It's rated at like 125,000 scovilles, but I've had 250K ones that weren't as hot. You gotta use this a drop at a time.

I like the El Yucateo Habanero sauce too, it's cheap and good!

nothing beats having an actual habanero pepper though, chewing on a little piece with a mouthful of food is awesome, head sweats, the whole works :thumbsup

Ditto, I put it in most of my meals

Fletch XXX 08-22-2009 08:29 AM

great thread!

Panola Clearly Hot Sauce - My brother just gave me a bottle of this the other day, while its nowhere near as hot as the stuff I enjoy on spicy food, its great on salads.

http://www.hotsaucehead.com/images/c...-hot-sauce.jpg

While I do make my own hot sauce, I definitely buy others and love tasting them,... Panola Clear is a good blend of onion juice and vinegar with floating peppers and garlic inside the bottle, as I said, perfect for salads, which i put fresh serranos and penos in anyway, pleasantly surprised.

i love hot sauce - when i order chicken from Popeye's i grab handfuls of their Lousianna hot sauce packets and just eat/lick them by themselves off my fingertip.

the insane suicide type hot sauces - i like them but they destroy your taste buds for hours, which sucks.
