Math Problem - can anyone solve this?
Your 78 kg patient has 400 mg dopamine in 250 ml D5W running at 12 ml/hr. What dose of dopamine is the patient receiving?
A) 2 mcg/kg/min B) 4 mcg/kg/min C) 5 mcg/kg/min D) 6 mcg/kg/min |
12ml ~= 1200mcg 1200mcg/60min = 20mcg/min
78kg/20mcg/min = 3.9 mcg/kg/min That's assuming at the 12ml is the dopamine amount not watered down.. I really don't understand the whole statement. |
I'm not doing your hw for you -- master dimensional analysis otherwise you are fuced.
|
I calculated ~4.1 mcg/kg/min, B?
|
Math makes my head hurt.
|
Just plug shit in and cancel stuff out, this isn't rocket science...
|
B) 4 mcg/kg/min
Patient is 78 kg. The ordered dose would have to be for 4 mcg/kg/min since: 78 kg x 4mcg/kg/min = 312 mcg/min. 312mcg/min x 60min/hr = 18720mcg/hr which equals mg= 18.72 mg/hr. 18.72 mg/hr x 250mL/400mg = 11.7 (12) mL/hr the running rate. |
My brain hurts

these things always freak me out when the answer is inexplicably rounded off to 1 significant digit :1orglaugh
|
First, whats my patient's name? Is she sexy?
|
wtf does this have to do with tube sites?
|
oops...I guess this is the wrong forum ... I was looking for titties and pussy.... :(

|
Im not sure if GFY is the right place to ask people how much dopamine to inject yourself with...

Just start low and turn up the volume till you start feeling good and then keep it there.
If your vision get blurry then turn it down slightly. |

Lol...thats a hard one ;) |
God damn it's been 10 years since I had to do this on the streets lol
400mg of Dopamine in 250 cc D5W = 1600 mcg/cc 60 min/hr = 26.6 mcg/cc/min When I was a paramedic we didn't use bags of 250cc's we always used 500/1000 and it was N/s sometimes Ringers *shrugs* |

Answer is B.
|
400mg / 250 = x mg/1 ml
250 x = 400 x = 1.6 Concentration is 1.6 mg/ml Convert mg to mcg 1.6 (mg) X 1000 (mcg per 1mg) = 1600 mcg /ml (ml/hr) 12 X 1600 / (time) 60 min/hr X 78 (weight in kgs) = 19200 / 4680 X = 4.1 mcg/kg/min |
The answer is E.
