do you meant making a travelling matte? Im not sure i understand your question what are you trying to do?

From the pan/crop option (from timeline) crop off a free style cut. to overlap beneath a second video track. I've used it before but Vegas 9 doesn't seem to have it, unless it's a plug or something. Thanks bud.

I use Vegas 9 but I'm still unclear as to what you're trying to do. Can you link to an example?

Oh, ok, splitscreen. Cookie cutter does exist in Vegas 9, I've used it to set up areas for blurring etc. and you can splitscreen with it in 9 as well.
